Show Pony Express Rider 1 E. -H. Maxfield, father of our fellowtownsman, Bishop Maxfield, Max-field, together with Geo. Chap-pel Chap-pel of Lyman, paid the Bishop and our town a visit last week. Mr. Maxfield is an old timer in the west, and in early days was one of the Pony Express riders, his station being out at Deer creek. Wyor He is also a veteran of the Black Hawk and Walker Indian In-dian wars of Utah and a man of very bright mind and interesting coversation, although he has reached the age of eighty-three. He has a store of very interes-ing interes-ing and exciting reminiscences of early western days, some we hope later to be able to reproduce for our readers. Mr. Chappel while here took an option on an 80 and says that he has eight sons whom he hopes some day to have located in the Delta county. coun-ty. After an extensive trip over the valley both expressed themselves them-selves as highly taken up with the country and went home greatly pleased with what they had seen. Mr. Maxfield has been a resident of Wayne County for the past 35 years. |
