Shipments of first-class ore and concentrates from the mills of Park City during the past week totaled 2,456 tons, estimated at $96,000. This is compared, with 2,19-6 tons the preceding pre-ceding week. During the month of May the Boston Bos-ton Development company, which is operating the old Maxfield mine in Big Cottonwood canyon, sent to market mar-ket approximately 350 tons of ore which brought $25,000. Control of the Nipsic Mining company, com-pany, which owns the Nipsic mine in the Coeur d'Alenes, is reported to have been acquired by purchasers that are acting for the Consolidated Inter-state-Callahau Mining company. One of the mining men connected with the Big Cottonwood Bonanza says that the new working tunnel is now in about 140 feet. It is being driven to tap the fissure which was discovered outcropping on the mountain moun-tain above. Twenty feet of ore, breaking $21 across the face, is the latest development develop-ment in the Rochester Mines company estate. The strike has been made in the south extension 'on the west vein on its strike from the Crown Point No. 1 into the Weaver ground. Alaska mining industry had its most prosperous year in 1915. The total mineral output was estimated at $32,000,000, as against $19,000,000 in 1914. Forsythe of San Francisco, who ia now at Logan with a number of engineers en-gineers investigating the strike. Reports, Re-ports, which have reached Salt Lake, are to the effect that the vein is the richest yet discovered in tne state and that it will extend across the state line into Idaho. After having demonstrated the existence ex-istence of a wonderful ore reserve in both the central and northern portions por-tions of Crown Point No. 1 claim, the Rochester Mines Company seems to be headed on a new tack with extra-I extra-I ordinary results. The latest strike on the south extension of the West vein has widened out to 20 feet of $21 ore. It is now apparent that the West vein is the main fissure of Rochester HilL Some of the ore that the Silver King Consolidated at Park City, Utah, had settlements for the past week brought net smelter returns of $61.62 a ton. Estimating fifty tons a day, this ore brought in about $3,000 a day net, as the clear profits are reported to have averaged about $50 a ton. The United States has long been the leading nation in the production of ! talc and soapstone and its production of late is increasing. The output of talc for 1915 was 106,336 short tons, valued at $1,401,197, and of soapston 20,655 short tons, valued at $490,385. |
