Show A RAILROAD AGRICULTURAL EXPERT. EX-PERT. We are glad to learn that the Clark railroads have employed Prof. Lolus A. Merrill as agricultural expert for the territory tributary to these roads. This Dew departure on the part of the Salt Lake Route brings about a , much closer relation between the company com-pany and the state along the line of development work, and will be of great benefit to the farming interests and the ralroad. The officials of the road realize that better farming mean larger crops and therefore a larger tonnage for the railroad. It is a recognition rec-ognition of that universal law, that in helping others you help yourself. Millard county has a very kindly feeling for Professor Merrill and a thorough appreciation of the value his services have been. The farmers only regret that he has not been able to spend more time In 'the county. We hope that under his new commission he will be able to devote a larger portion por-tion of his time here, for we do not believe any part of the state needs his services more urgently. During the sixteen years that Professor Merrill was identified with the educational institutions in-stitutions of the state he laid a magnificent mag-nificent foundation for carrying out the various development Ideas In which the Salt Lake Route Is particularly interested. inter-ested. The experlmenta at Nephl which developed the methods and value of dry farming were chiefly under his supervision. He Is thoroughly acquaint ed with the soil end conditions In all parta of Utah and will aid greatly in the development of those sections along the line of the Salt Lake Route that are still in their Infancy, so far as agriculture is concerned. Professor Merrill Is now with the demonstration train that is touring the state, and which will be in Delta and Ossle this week. |
