Show Mayor Proclaims Price Control for Prosperity Week The armed forces of the United States and its heroic allies have won one of- the world's greatest victories. Nevertheless, an unseen ! enemy almost as dangerous as those overcome in foreign lands ; remains unconquered at home. ' This invisible foe is inflation or I run-away prices, which reduce the buying power of wages and In- come, lower living standards, para-i para-i lyze industry, and inevitably bring i unemployment, depression, starva-' starva-' tion, and civil disorder. ' Reasonable prices stimulate buy- ing and-mass consumption, assure lower costs of production, and con-i con-i tribute to maximum production and employment. Runaway prices j increase living and production costs, encourage ' wage disputes i and strikes, cause hoarding, da- mage morale, weaken the will to produce, and set the stage for col- lapse. If our returning war veterans are i to have employment, homes and ! educational opportunity, we must maintain a balanced economy as a basis for mass production and for mass consumption. No other type of economy can save the nation from economic disaster. An inflationary infla-tionary trend a Boom and Bust" cycle such as that which followed follow-ed the last world war is likely to bring unemployment, business failures, fail-ures, farm and. home foreclosures to a degree never before experienced. experi-enced. Wherefore, to call attention to the need to fight inflation, until supply rises sufficiently to balance demand, I, Golden H. Black, Mayor of Delta, request organizations, schools and churches to arrange for discussions of "Price Control for Prosperity" during the week of Nov. 26 to Dec. 1. I also urge all citizens to cooperate with the federal fed-eral government's program to control con-trol prices by strictly observing the rule not to ask or pay more than the OPA price. Golden H.
