Show Four Groups Eligible For Preferred Gas Rations Changes affecting the eligibility of several groups of persons for gasoline rations were announced by OPA. They are as follows: 1. Servicemen returning to this country from overseas, who are issued is-sued temporary duty orders for "Rehabilitation arid Recovery" may obtain furlough gasolifie rations. These servicemen should apply to their local war price and rationing boards and present both of their temporary duty orders and the mileage mil-eage rationing record (OPA R-534) for the car that they are going to use. Previously, the ration was given giv-en only when the servicemen on leave or furlough for three days or more presented leave or furlough papers. The change was necessary because those being sent home for periodsof about 30 days will not be issued such papers. The furlough fur-lough ration, which will remain unchanged, un-changed, provides one gallon of gasoline each day of the furlough, leave, or temporary duty, to a maximum max-imum of 30 gallons. 2. Because growing crops damaged dam-aged by hail or wind must be inspected in-spected promptly for maximum salvage, sal-vage, adequate gasoline rations will be provided insurance adjusters adjust-ers to make trips to farms for this purpose. Formerly, semi-prefered mileage, which is limited to 825 miles per month, was permitted for travel to farms to inspect storm damaged crops. 3. Preferred mileage rations will be isuued to buyers for essential plants who have to travel long distances dis-tances to buy cattle, sheep, pulp-wood, pulp-wood, rice and similar items processed pro-cessed at the plants. Local boards will give the preferred mileage rations ra-tions to buyers for such essential establishments as packing plants, feedlots, canneries or processing plants, under the following conditions: condi-tions: (1) Applicants must be skilled skill-ed in grading and classifying the products they buy; (2) The industry's indust-ry's market practices or conditions, ' such as unavailability of public markets, must require buyers to travel long distances. Heretofore, these buyers were limited to semi- , preferred mileage. In many cases this ceiling of 825 miles per month, which will remain unchanged when the regular "B" ceiling is raised to 650 miles a month June 11, does not provide sufficient gasoline for essential travel by these buyers. 4. The eligibility of social work-1 work-1 ers for preferred mileage is limited . by the provision that only full time social workers who are both era- ployed and paid by a nonprofit organization or-ganization may be issued preferred prefer-red mileage rations. |
