Show Placque Unveiled Honoring Dead The student body of the Delta high school paid reverent tribute to those from their midst who gave to their country the last full measure meas-ure of devotion in World War II in the program given in the auditorium auditor-ium Monday night, Nov. 12. A memorial plaque, inscribed with the names of the nineteen former Delta high school students who gave their lives in this war was unveiled at the close of the program. pro-gram. The names on the plaque are: Ens. Rondo J. Law; RM 3c Theodore Theo-dore Que Jensen USN; Ens. John Abram Bishop. Pvt. Samuel Bennett Ben-nett Abbott; Capt. Hugh Rawlin Roper; Pvt. Ilet DeVou Petty; TS Glen O. Wilkins; 2nd Lt. Ray M. Bunker; 2nd. Lt. Joseph M. Tip-petts; Tip-petts; 2nd Lt. Samuel Walter Chynoweth. 2nd Lt. Bryant Leor " Larson; Sgt J. Paul Maloney; Lt. (j.g.) Glen Elmer Peterson; S 1c J. Grant Snow, USN; Cpl. Phil Finlinson; Fin-linson; Flight Officer Guy F. Shurtz; Ens. Gam Earl Thalman. Pvt. Dean O. Nielson; and 2nd Lt. David Boyd Gardner. The program opened with the advancing of the colors, the pledge of Allegiance and silent tribute, directed by the American Legion. The congregation joined in sing- ! , ing the national anthem, and ; Bishop A. O. Gardner offered prayer. pray-er. The Delta ladies' chorus sang, "Invocation." .- ,' The speaker for the evening was ! Peter Peterson of Oasis, who paid eloquent tribute to the memory of these men who gave their lievs in the service of our country. Principal Glen Seegmiller spoke 1 next, to give a short history of each of the men whose names is , on the plaque. He also presented the Gold Star parents with a beautiful beau-tiful framed picture, of American scenes, in water color, given to them by the student body in memory mem-ory of their sons. Those parents from out of town who were here for the ceremony were Mrs. Bessie Law, Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Maloney, Mr. and Mrs. Dean F. Peterson.and Mr. and Mrs. William Chynoweth. Following the presentations, the male quartette, Ray Church, Edward Ed-ward Christensen Merlin Christen-sen Christen-sen and Homer Christensen, sang "Stout Hearted Men." Then Mrs. Louise Adams gave a reading, and unveiled the memorial plaque. The Delta high school band played during, the intermission which preceded the closing tableau. tab-leau. The tableau depicted the American family and service men, and while it was shown the chorus sang "My Own America." "Taps" was played by Edward Christensen, and the closing prayer pray-er was given by Joseph P. Fidel. |
