Show Discuss Effects Of Insecticides On Blood Stream The need for cooperation and consideration of our neighbors was made apparent in the meeting Tuesday, March 25, according to representatives of the state Board of Health, Board of Agriculture and Extension Service. The meeting was sponsored by the Extension Service and grew out of request of local people to know the latest information from the state and U. S. health departments depart-ments and a desire to know the procedure to be followed in complying com-plying with the existing law which was passed by the last legislatnre by popular demand of the people of the state of Utah. The reports of tests and experiments experi-ments made the 'health authorities in this and other states in the nation were discussed by Mr. Morrill Mor-rill of the state health department. They proposed the program to be followed this year of making a series of blood tests. One group of interested individuals individ-uals had tests taken Wednesday, March 26, and these were taken to Salt Lake to be tested in the state health department laboratories. laborator-ies. Other tests will be taken through out the year, to determine the effect ef-fect of insecticides on the blood stream. If an additional ten or more peopel desire a test in the near future, enough to warrant the expense involved, please contact the county agent and arrangement will be made with all concerned. Costs of $2 per sample blood must be paid by the patient to the doctor, and testing will be done by the state health department free. It is pointed out by Mr. Morrill that tests prior to exposure must be made, to determine the normal blood level for each person. Tests after exposure must be taken to determine the extent of damage. Dr. Carl Frischnecht and Dr. Knowlton represented the USAC ex tension service from the state level. lev-el. Dr. Frischnecht was instrumental instrumen-tal in obtaining the cooperation of the state agriculture and health ' departments, and in bringing the program to Millard county at this time. Dr. Knowlton discussed the spray program as outlined by the U. S. department of agriculture, the experiment ex-periment station and the extension service. The state department of agriculture agric-ulture was represented by Dr. Christensen, state chemist, Dr. Curtis, Cur-tis, state veterinarian, and Brian Anderson .state weed supervisor. Mr. Anderson discussed the new insecticide in-secticide laws which were formulated formul-ated last year. Through the cooperation of all, it was the consensus of opinion that we can live together in health and happiness. Without cooperation coopera-tion we may lose our health and be very miserable. |
