Show Millard county Chronicle Delta, Utah, Thurs., June 26,1952 0 YEARS AGO ... From the Files .... FROM THE FILES DELTA , A. L. Pritchett and family lare among the recent arrivals in Delta. Mr. Pritchett comes from Los An-geles and has 160 acres on the west side which he proposes to convert into a profitable farm. He has begun the construction of a modern bungalow on his place, and the family is provided with an automobile and two motorcy-cles to travel around the country when the roads are not flooded. The Delta baseball team met the Hinckley team on their grounds last Saturday and was beaten by a score of ten to five. The boys are loud in their praise of the way they were treated by the Hinckley people. They did ev-erything they could to make their visit a pleasant one. They hope to make a better showing when they meet the Hinckley team here next Saturday. Ren Sampson has just purchas-ed J. O. Guill's 40 acre farm aboout four miles southeast oof Delta, with the growing crops. Nearly everyone over at Abra-ham is cutting their alfalfa, and it is reported a little better than last year. .There are 1,000 acres to cut this year. It is selling from $8 to $10 per ton. George Sampson will leave the 11th oe next month on a missioon to the southern. States. On Monday the first his relatives will give a Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Lovell will give their wedding dance next Fri-day night. Sunday afternoon the young people of Oak City who are best known by the "Sooner Crowd", went for a joy ride with an old two wheel dump cart for a car-riage, and a span of mules for a team; they circled the city. The crowd, composed of 12, part boys and part girls, were decorated on all sides with sagebrush, mules in-cluded. The ride lasted until to-ward night when they got out to gather flowers. The mules, seeing their chance simply ran off and left only the spring seats scatter-ed along the road for the persons to sit upon and rest. LEAMINGTON Last Friday the nine year old boy of Joseph and Emma Nielson was thrown from a horse against a telegraph pole. His leg was bro-ken and crushed. Dr. Bennett of Nephi was summoned. He took the boy to Nephi the next morning, ac companied by his father and moth-er. His mother will remain there five or six weeks with him. party in his honor at the home of J. P. Sampson, and in the even-ing they will have a dance in the Amusement Hall to which all his friends are invited. Good music will be provided. . OAK CITY Mr. and Mrs. Bert Roper gave their wedding dance Friday night. A bundle shower was given them Saturday night. A very enjoyable time was had. . HINCKLEY Hinckley has put up a purse oof $100 for a baseball game on the 4th and the Delta team is going down and try to win it. It is ex-pected that the Deseret, Scipio and Fillmore teams will also be on hand. The games will take place in the afternoon and it is hoped one game can be played here in the afternoon and then other games on the 5th and 6th. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heise, from Magna, and their son, Donald, who is home on furlough before depar-ture for overseas duty in the Pac-ific, visited in Delta Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heise. With them was their brother, Maynard Heise, of Libby, Mont., who was returning home after a vacation trip to Denver. Cpl. Ronald L. Wilkms and Pvt. twin sons ot Donald L. Wilkins, Air a.nd Mrs. Heber Wilkms, Delta write home that they have finally arrived at their base at Unalakleet Alaska. The boys are with an en-gineering and surveying company, and shipped to their destination on the USS President Jackson.They navigate the Yuk-on were unabel to River, which was frozen over, and took another channel north. There the ice broke holes in the ship, and they were delayed five days for repairs. A clipping from an Alaskan paper told about how bombers had been sent out to try and break the ice up. The boys will be in Alaska until Oct. 1 and then shipped back to the stales. This is Donald's third summer in Alaska and the second trip for Ronald. Black tlovli MRS. MERRILL MILLER Nathan W. Davis-of- Mr and Mrs. Salt Lake City were visitors at millers. Mr. and Mrs. the Merrill Charles Avery and two of their children Alden and Carol from Calif., were guests of the Merrill Millers for several days. Mr and Mrs. Avery and Carol then continued on their trip into the Paoiiie Northwest, while Alden sta-yed on at Black Rock. Hamilton Burke was in Delta on business. Mrs Joe Tribley and her mother, Mrs F. W. Cottrell of Milford were at the Merrill Millers with her daughter and who are visiting friends and relatives while in Utah. The next meeting was at the church house with Mrs. Sarah Niel-so- n and two other clubs. On May 2S we met at the home of Judith Finlinson to make our third meeting. On June 4 we met at the home of Dixie Dutson and made hot pads. On June 10 we met at the home of Janet Finlinson and star-ted to cut out dresses and aprons. On June 18 we met at the home of Dorothy Roper. Our officers are Janet Finlinson, pres., Dixie Dutson, vice pres., and secretary is Jeanette Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Callister drove to Salt --Lake City Saturday, where they spent two days at the LDS hospital with Mrs. Callister's father, Job H. Riding.
