Show Chaffer Box Dear Suzy, The cattlemen seem to be having hav-ing it a little rough this winter what with cattle prices dropping way down, hay going way up, and so most of them can look forward to their reward as being in the company of the cattle this winter. And so Lee Gronning wanted to get the most of the company of the stock and for some time has been bringing the calves into the back of the Delta Motor Company where they are nursemaided by Lee and one Bill Cook. These two men spend most of a day sterilizing steril-izing bottles, buckets, nipples, and cleaning up after the calves. The worst deal came to them the other day when a calf came Into this cold, cruel world and found that its mother would have nothing to do with it. The cow was a little wild and didn't particularly partic-ularly care for a rope around its neck, and was decidedly not in favor of leading. So Lee tied the rope to a Jeep and was going to show the cow a thing or" two. He did that in such a good fashion that he showed the cow the way to the next world and so now has a dead cow on his hands. Well, not really on his hands' but out in the field some place. It seems that the cow held back and the Jeep held forward and all of a sudden the cow bumped its nose on the frozen ground, did a cart wheel, and came to rest with a very limp neck. To salvage all they could out of this disaster Lee and Bill hurried hur-ried the nursing group of calves back to the respective mothers and put all their time on keeping this unwanted little tike on enlarged rations and a substitute for mother's moth-er's love. Customers in the motor company have gone unwaited upon up-on while these two men coo in their best cow-like manner to the offspring, stroking the beast and urging more food on it. At present the little calf is doing right well but has become quite a problem for the men. For it seems that when they slide under a car to take it apart the calf stands guard over them licking off dripping oil from their faces, and putting cow licks in their pompadours. Also another Droblem that has But finally she found what she was looking for, left the show covering cov-ering up her embarrassment. It seems that she has a rather loose bridge and whiling away the time in the show happened to flip it out of her mouth with her tongue ton-gue and that was the reason for the search. She is figured to have handled 857 popcorn kernels before be-fore she found the tooth and now she is an authority on "looking for a needle in a haystack". But it all came to a happy ending. end-ing. The tooth was found, washed and replaced and now Althea can smile broadly without showing a gap in her molars. Ray will be very much relieved to know that Althea did not leave the show because of the show, but because she had nothing to show in parts of her mouth. Which proves again, that you don't get into trouble until you open op-en your mouth. Toots. confounded them is getting the calf house broke. They have argued argu-ed pleaded and entreated with it to be more careful where it isn't at all careful, and the back end of the motor company looks a shamble. They asked Nita to whip up a few diapers for it, in rather large size, but Nita's reply to the nursemaids will have to go unpublished. un-published. While they were heaping all their attention on the one calf the others started to slip back and they had to be brought back into the fold and nursed again. At present pre-sent they are having quite a session ses-sion what with only two of them to tend the calves each 24 hours, but by breaking the time down into in-to shifts and putting in a lot of time at night when they should be sleeping the men have the situation situa-tion under control and are salvaging salvag-ing the cattle herd as best they can. So if you see calves in the show windows of Delta Motor instead in-stead of Jeeps think nothing of it. They have moved the Jeeps out to make room for the calves and before they can bring the Jeeps back they will have to move the calves out as well as a lot of other stuff they hadn't bargained for. People sitting near Althea Or-ton Or-ton at the show the other night were quite concerned as to why she was searching the floor in such a systematic fashion and refused re-fused all offers of help. She would not even think of putting the other patrons out by having them help her, and she was very emphatic empha-tic that Ray and his flash light not be called in because of her predicament. |
