Show Fellowship Award Is Received By Dr. Roland Robins Dr. Roland K. Robins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenith R. Robins, of Delta, has been awarded a $5,500 post-doctoral research fellowship at the Wellcome Research Laboratories, Labor-atories, Tuckahoe, New. York. , The fellowship is sponsored by the Sloan Kettering Institue for Cancer Research in New York. Dr. Robins will work under the direction direc-tion of Dr. George H. Hitchings. Dr. Robins has recently been awarded aw-arded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of chemistry chem-istry from Oregon State College, Corvallis, Oregon. He had been the past three years with purines actively engaged in research for every living cell and play a vital and pyrimidines compounds which Hccur naturally in the nucleus of role in the normal growth processes. proces-ses. He will continue his studies of these compounds at the Well . -come Researach Laboratories where wh-ere a number of synthetic purine analogs will be tested for their posslbel therapeutic value in arresting ar-resting the abnormal rate of growth grow-th characteristic of cancerous cells. Dr. Robins is a graduate of Delta high school and received his A.B. degree from BYU in 1948, and his M.A. there in 1949. He was awarded the annual Sigma Xi award from BYU in 1949 for the most outstanding master's thesis in science for that year. He is a member of Phi Lamba Upsil-on, Upsil-on, national chemical honorary society, and a member of Sigma Xi, national science honorary society. soc-iety.
