Show Repair On Gates Calls For Early Draining Of Dam The four lower water companies compan-ies sent out letters this past week informing the stockholders that the Sevier Bridge reservoir must be drained by September 1 so that important work can be done on the gates and tunnel. There will be no hold-over credits and the water must be used up before that time. After September 1 the only water wat-er available will be the make of the river below the Sevier Bridge dam, what is stored in the Delta-Melville Delta-Melville diversion dam, and what is stored in the Gunnison Bend reservoir. The make of the river belongs to the direct or primary flow users. Deseret and Abraham irrigation companies, and there will not be any of this water available avail-able for the other companies. The Diversion Dam holds about 1900 acre feet, which is a small amount for the two companies using us-ing that .Gunnison Bend holds about ab-out 4,500 acre feet, but it is questionable quest-ionable whether they will fill it, or hold it at a lower level on account ac-count of the damage done by the wind two weeks ago. The storage of water in Fool Creek reservoir is very uncertain as the Central Utah Water Company Com-pany will be drawing heavily on the river during August and the canal will not be able to carry extra water to fill it. To fill Fool Creek now would be a big waste of water from evaporation seepage. seep-age. Water users are asked, during this drouth year, to use: up their credits and those that they don't need they are asked to rent the stock to farmers who are low on water this year. Those who have excess water are asked to list it with the Delta office sothat it may be promptly rented and used up before September 1. After the water of the various companies has been exhausted and there are surpluses in others an arrangement has been made to rent water from those who have it and run it through the canal systems sys-tems of those who have used up their water. The situation is critical but the various 'boards have worked out the plan to what is considered the best advantage and with the cooperation co-operation of the water owners who have excess to rent it to those who are short of water, it is felt that there will be ample water for this season. |
