Cahoon, about fifty years of age, met with a severe accident which nearly cost him his life. While dragging a small tree to his wagon it ran ag-ainst a standing tree which fell ov-er on him, striking him on the head, breaking his jaw bone in two places and his leg below the knee and dislocating his knee joint His Leigh R. Moody, with others, was at the camp. He rode to Deseret and H. S. Cahoon hurried to the scene of the accid-ent with Dr. Broadus. They re-turned the injured man to Deseret where the doctor set the broken hones, but owing to the knee 'bs-i.i- g badly swollen, he has not yet been able to put it in a cast. John Matson, the photographer, is in Deseret, and is meeting with much success in his business. Mr. Matson is well known for the ex-cellence of his work. Mr. Henry Dewsnup, son of our popular merchant, Mr. John Dew-snup, had the audacity to lead away one of Oasis' most popular girls and drive over to Fillmore to hold an interview with the coun ty clerk. When they returned it will be Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dewsnup. Miss Mollie Williams, as she was formerly known, will make the ad-dition to the population of Deseret, and we bid her welcome and wish them a pleasant journey through life. :: Academy Notes Several new students have enter ed so that we now have 143. MERRILL MILLER Mrs. Hampton C. Burke, Mrs. Merrill Miller, and Mr. Walter J. Miller returned from Salt Lake City after a short business trip there . Friday Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Mil-ler, Mr. Walter J. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Hampton C. Burke trav-elled to attend the funeral of Mrs. E. W. 'Clay, at Garrison, Utah. Mrs. Clay, a life long resident of that community, was a particular friend of all. Her loss is great to all who knew her or came in contact with her. Mrs. B. J. Scott of Seattle, Wash-ington, travelled here to attend the funeral of Mrs. Clay and will spend several days with Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Miller before return-ing to Seattle. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Miller were Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Clay and daughter of Mil-for- d; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Adair of Black Rock; and Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Burke of Black Rock. All en-joyed a delicious dinner and all talked themselves out during the afternoon and evening. Mrs. Charles A. FlemmLng and daughter , Donetta returned to Black Rock 'from their trip East. Among the places they visited are Richmond, Virginia; Detroit, Mich-igan; Madison, Wisconsin; Milwau-kee, Wisconsin; Mansfield, Ohio; and many other places of interest. On their return they were met by Mrs. Ruth Elam of Albuquerque, N. M., the aunt of Miss Donetta Flemming. Miss Flemming indicat-ed her intention to travel to Albu-querque with her aunt in the very near future. |
