Show What's the Young Farmer Program The young farmer group is not a precisely defined group. It is usually recognized as including young men out of school and living on farms who have not become definitely and securely established as farm operators. As a group they are confronted with problems relating re-lating to becoming established in farming and establishing a home. A majority of this group may be expected to be in the process of establishment. This period of making a beginning be-ginning in farming is a crucial stage for American agriculture and the democratic way of life. Science and the industrial revolution revolu-tion have made the business of farming more complex and more costly in terms of making a beginning. be-ginning. To insure a high percentage percent-age of success on the part of those taking over as operators it is imperative im-perative to the welfare of agricu-ture agricu-ture that systematic programs in agriculture for the young farmer is one way of insuring favorable outcomes. me. Of course, the choice might not be so good at tha time I do my shopping because things are a little picked over at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 24. There is a need for developing a variety of programs which insure opportunity for vocational agriculture agricul-ture departments to provide the young farmer groups with the kind of educational programs which they need and want. This program will be. developed by the young farmers of this area to use the facilities of the Detla high school vocational departments as they see fit. The services of local mechanics, farmers, and others can be effectively effect-ively utilized under the direction of a teacher of agriculture dn conducting con-ducting young farmer programs. The program can functnon efficiently effi-ciently in securing information, services, ser-vices, etc., afforded by other agricultural agri-cultural agencies and institutions. Members of young farmer groups should compare opportunities to get started in farming on their own farms with opportunities on other farms in the community. They should study the possibilities of reorganizing the farming programs on their home farms in order to make the farms more profitable, both for fathers and sons. Young farmers should learn the principles governing sound parent and son business agreements involving the entire farm business. They should study farm leases and farm purchase pur-chase contracts. They should understand und-erstand how and when to use production pro-duction credit and farm loans. They should make farm and home plans and should keep farm and home acocounts. They should learn how to analyze the records of the farm business and how to reorganize the farm business. These and many other cooperative coopera-tive and recreational activities can be accomplished in a program of this nature. At the present the young farmers are planning to use the facilities of the vocational shop. Come to our next meeting. |
