| Show VOTE ON THE Al AMENDMENT J r The students of the University will decide today by voting on a n proposed amendment to the constitution constitution constitution whether or r not a blanket charge for the year yearbook book shall be added to the student activity fee The amendment is an important one and deserving of the most careful consideration of every student If adopted it will mean an increase in the student 5 5 activity fee of approximately 50 per cent This f fact ct in particular makes the Issue an especially vital one The merits of the proposed question arc are debatable there being reasonable arguments both for and against a n blanket charge for If every student is compelled to buy a at the time of registration it will result in a material materi materi- al 31 reduction in the price of at the book The greatest benefit however which will result from the change will be the opportunity for increased efficiency on the year book staff Under the present system the editors of the are required to direct almost as much effort in the selling of or year books as in inthe inthe the preparation of the book itself The proposed change would make it possible for the staff to spend all of their time in compiling the book r l On the other hand it is very possible that under the new system the editors of the book might not take the necessary interest in the annual to make the thing a success Under the present method the sales of the in the spring depend on the merits of the book and unless the book is up to standard it will be a financial failure This makes it necessary for the staff to put their best efforts into the annual to make it a success At the same ti time e there are many who h have ve no desire to purchase a year book and the co compulsory tax Jax would d be an infringement ment on their their perso personal t liberties Also ma many y students do not desire to purchase their year yearbook yearbook yearbook book until they are sure that it it is worth the price and judging from the qua quality ity of some of of the annuals put out ut in recent years ears their ideas are well founded |
