Show THEBARNUM- I BAILEY CIRCUS ; Gives No Parade, Thus !H Loses Crowd. 'H Show a Very Good One !'H All Through. The Harnum & Bailey circus came H 'to Logan as per schedule and showed H during the afternoon of Saturday to H about 8,000 people, the great tent be- H Ing but slightly more than half tilled. H While the show was well worth the H money about 7,000 of these wished they H had staid at home and sat on a cake of H lce, fornowhcio thlssldcof the Infernal H regions could a warmer place be found. H It was hot to suffocation. H There is no little difference of opin- H Ion as to the merits of the show. H Some were Inclined to feel that the Rlngllng production is best. The B writer is ono who thinks otherwise, but In any event all got the worth of H their money. There were the three H big rings, tho usual tumbling, trapeze H and bar performances, horse back rid- IH Ing, tight and loose wire work.clowns, IH trained animals, and the big special H features H The Big Feat. f M Maurlclade Tiers in her wonderful jllH "Dip of Death" did the stunt success- jllH fully and received the plaudits of the llB thousands. Tho lady is a beautiful jilH creature, all smiles, dressed In silks, ilH who permits herself to be stiapped H Into an automobile which Is shoved IIIH ovci a precipice tlfty feet high. The IIIH machine Is on runners which hold It IIIH until It reaches a certain point and IIIH the lady, automobile and all turn a , IH somersault, lauding right side up on IIH an Incline. The trick is a daring one IIH of course, but absolutely safe unless IIH some one Is careless or something H breaks. ' This is meicly a case of IIH where "external vigilance is the. price 'llfl of H Volo the Volitant. jH The fellow who comes down the In- cllneon a bicycle and Jumps a great lll gap Is In more danger than Maurlcla. IH Ho must control his wheel and should IIH he lose his piesoncc of mind for a IIH second ho would get a teh-iflc fall. illlfl The "Durbar at Delhi" was not 'H much as a spectacular production. A IIIB large number of line elephants were IIIB shown In this, and littlo else, IIIB The tumbling and balancing of the IIIB Grunatho Sisters seven in number, llll (tho people In yellow) was a new feat- llH lire of great merit. They wero ox- IIB pcrts and of exceptional strength. IIIB The Florence Troupe, twelve In IH number, who appeared on tho east 'B floor, wcro not less entertaining. M Dc Renoand La Due, the two who M performed with bicycles on a tight M wire, were new and of great merit. M There appeared to be nothing they M could not do. M The work of the Japanese was sup- M orllne. One handled another with his M feet in a wonderful way; another H Juggled bowls of water phenomenally M but what is It a Jap can not do? H The giant, George Auger, eight feet H in height, walking aiound the ring hi H company with tho midgets, the Ilor- M vath family, created no end ot fun. M A "Coaching Pai ty on a Lark" prov- H cd a lively one, and a new feature of M worth; likewise the hurdle Jumping H by the horses. M Clown Catches 'em. M One clown had a great lot of fun M taking pictures of llkclv looking iH couples who would stand for him. As a young couple, hand in hand, would jH approach, ho would ask the glorious JH privilege, etc., and they would smtl- 'H ingly acquiesce. He would then have ll them stand close together, place a H hand on the other's shoulder, etc., and ! request them to ' wait a minute." In JH that minute he was gone to take an- H other picture and the victims wore H left standing while the crowd whoop- iH ed and yelled. H The menagerie Is one of the best in H cxlstenco and the show as a whole Is H great, not excepting the big band. In H all probability a much better crowd H would have been secured had there H been a parade Oity people may stand H for this cut but tho rural districts ,H resent It. H |
