Stewart Jr. moved that Mr. Sneddon bo named by acclamation and he went In with a whoop. Justice of Peace. This proved a battle royal that is, all engaged In a struggle to fasten the nomination onto tho. other fellow. $12.50 a month didn't seem to appeal to the members of that convention very strongly. II. A. Pedersen "had a man In mind" and when ho got him out it proved to bo Robert Murdock. That gentleman got in such a hurry to do-cllno do-cllno that when once on his feet he could not say a word and tho crowd had a good laugh. "Rob" finally "camo 'round" and Indicated that he wouldn't know what to do with the money. Geo. Cole named Fred Turner and though he needs tho money he felt that he couldn't alTord to get It this way. Mr. Murdock turned the tables on II. A. Pedersen, naming him' for the position. Hans said he was too busy. J. A. llendrickson named Jos. E. Wilson, but that gentleman thought one olllce In tho family was sufficient. Joel Kicks presented the name of J. Z. The convention conven-tion then adjourned. The Aftermath. Nlel S. Bell was In evidence as usual, but on his first attempt to name tho ticket, Chairman Maughan sat down on him with a weight equal to that which both Commissioner Knowles and J. C. Johnson could muster and Nlel was so non-plusscd that he sat throughout the meeting without even blinking again. Tho place of holding the convention was changed from tho Wilkinson building to the court house because it Is the disposition of tho republican party to move up and not down. Some of 'cm said, the change was mado to secure better accommodations, a good the for Instance, but this Is a mistake, for the republicans arc warm enough members without lire. Judge Maughan made an excellent presiding oillcer, rushing things through In an admirable manner. City Chairman Geo. Colo will resign within a day or two. He says that his business affairs demand all his time at present. The city chairman In response to a democratic remark, "youvc held your convention, have youi" replied: "Oh no, that was merely a gathering of the high priests." A. A. Law, anticipating that he would be called on for a speech, went to the clerk's olllce and locked himself in. Tho convention called for him and wanted to send Joe Knowles after him, but that gentleman had to confess con-fess his inability to scramble through the Keyhole or transom. G. 0. P.
