Friday moinlng there stood tied to the rail in front of Tin: Hkitiimcan olllce a horse that attracted the attention atten-tion of every passerby by Its unkempt condition. Kvery bone In Its anatomy-was anatomy-was plainly visible, and it appeared as though hardly able to stand, yet the owner hail It hitched to a buggy and no doubt is using it regulaily as a work or driving horse. The animal's condition is clearly Hie result of negligence negli-gence and a lack or something to eat, yet the owner, whom we know, would probably feel Insulted If wo should say he is an extremely poor man. There Is absolutely no excuse for such Inhumanity, and we respectfully suggest sug-gest that the owner cither quit driving driv-ing the animal and feed him until he Is in .shape, or take his bones to the grave-yard. Following this warning, we will take great pleasure in filing a complaint against the owner of that horse should we again happen to sec him driving the animal In Its present condition, and wo respectfully suggest this plan to others who may have been riled by this inhumanity. With theplcntlfulnessof feed at the present pres-ent low price, no man can offer excuse for not feeding his animals. This baseball business Is a great thing, especially that part of it which has to do with keeping it professional team In an amateur town, llefore our $800 calamity was fastened onto the fans, Joe Squires signed as witness of a contract which one Pictro dc Gal-ganario Gal-ganario made with nobody In particular, particu-lar, In which ho agreed to play ball for $7.r a month. This agreement Is really a picturesque affair, but the most plctuiesque feature of the whole thing is the recent letter from prominent promi-nent Logan attorneys giving Joe a courteous notice that he Is to be sued for said Pletio do Galganarlo's salary. When Joe got this notice he sat down Immediately and wrote a check for the full amount and begged the attorneys at-torneys to send him the piomlscous lot of bills they must have In their possession, as he would like to pay them all and get through with It. One time Joe was a witness when an aeronaut fell from a balloon, and since lie Is expected to pay (ialgano's salary because he was a witness to a contract Galgano signed, he feels now that he should have been held icsponslble for the aeronaut's damages, at least for his funeral expenses. While liere.Gal-gano liere.Gal-gano did good work for us all right and without question lie should have his pay. but that Joe Squires, who had little or nothing to do with the baseball base-ball business and who did have six cases of measles, two of whooping cough, and a new baby at Ills homo the past winter, should have to stand for the whole cheese Is more than any man in the employ of Uncle Sam ought to stand for. As was said before, be-fore, tills handling of professional ball teams In disguise isn't what It's cracked up to be. |
