Show INDEPENDENCE AS A MYTH. Idea It a Delusion Leading to Warping of Character. John says: "I um not suing to be dependent upon nny man. I am going go-ing to live my own life. In my own way. as 1 expect other men to live theirs. If they will k-ave me alone, 1 will leave them alone," and John Hatters Hat-ters himself that he Is asserting his own strength of personality tlint he is emphasizing his Individuality, writes Annio Payroll Call In Leslie's .Monthly. The truth Is that John is warping himself every day liy his weak dependence iiixin hi own prejudices. preju-dices. Ik- Is unwilling to look fairly at another man's opinion, for fenr of being deiwwiciit upon It. He Is not only warping himself by his "Independence," "Inde-pendence," which is puffed up with the false appearance of strength, but he Is robbing Ills fellow men; for he cannot can-not refute to receive from others with out putting It out or his own power to give to others. Ileal giving and receiving receiv-ing must lie reclpiocal In spirit, and absolutely dependent upon each other. It Is a curious and a sad study to watch the growing slavery of such "Independent" "In-dependent" people. |
