George Torgeson, Horace Ncbeker and Nells Hansen, and Misses El-dredge, El-dredge, McKay, and Thatcher returned return-ed Wednesday from a week's camp up above the forks In Logan canyon. Richard Lyman, a civil engineer of Salt Lake, has been at the Lcwlston factory the past few days doing somo surveying. Mr. Lyman returned home Wednesday morning. In our last Issue wc published that William Chugg, of Providence, was going to a medical Institute at Portland Port-land for the curing of stammering In speech. Wc have since been Informed that It was Incorrect. Arthur Bateson, wife and children left Thursday at noon for Bear Lako to spend sovcral days. There Is no more satisfactory camping place In northern Utah than Bear Lake, and with the roads through tho canyon In Its present excellent shape the trip can be made in a fairly comfortable way and In the minimum time. Persons having rooms or houses to rent, also those desiring to take student boarders during tho coming winter will please communicate at once with the secretary of the Brlgham Brlg-ham Young College. The O. S. L. R. R. Co. Is building an up to date depot at Trenton, being larger than that at Cache Junction. It will bo completed about September tlrst. C. A. Smurthwalte, of Ogden, has leased some land of the railroad company on which he will build a grain warehouse. Trenton will naturally natur-ally draw some trade from Cache Junction Junc-tion as many people from Clarkston will ship from Trenton, also people from west Lewlston. Some of the- Lcwlston people are much exercised over recent survojs made there. An effort Is being made by some to change the roads to conform con-form to this survey, it Is said the frontage of the Pond property Is 0113 rod too far east. I f this recent survey Is adhered to It may mean considerable consider-able Inconvenience to some. People should know positively what they are doing In moving lines that have been established and recognized for over thirty years. As the passenger train was leaving Cache Junction on Wednesday morning, morn-ing, tho train men discovered three tramps abroad. In putting them oil the tramps put up a light, striking a brakcraan on the side of the neck with a rock. Special agent Joseph Jones was aboard and went hurriedly to the scene, and one of tho men butted but-ted him in thq stomach with his head, knocking the wind out of him. Joseph Jos-eph got his pistol from the train, after which the train left. Ho secured a horse and pursued the men Into the hills, finally capturing them. They were turned over to Deputy Sheriff Griillnatthe Junction, who brought them to Logan for trial. E. D. Hogan, who has been with the Bell Telephone Co. for some time, has severed his connection and accepted ac-cepted a position as manager for the Independent Company and will assume his duties at once. Mr. Ilogan says that the Independent will be ready to give service here In about two months. The poles, about 1,200 In number, arc practically all set, and In a few days the stringing of cables will be begun. All the company's wires will be strung In cables, a total of about eight miles, Mr. Hogan anticipates starting out here with a pretty fair patronage. In Salt Lake tho Independent has 3,500 'phones, In Ogden 1,300, and at Brlgham Brlg-ham City tho company opened service tin other day with 70. It Is expected that from 200 to 250 will be secured here 'ere tho olllco opens. Mr. Ilogan Is a very steady, capable gentleman and will no doubt make a very clllclent manager for the Independent people. |
