Show Vandalism Again. Complaints have come befoic the city council that persons pcisist in ic-moving ic-moving flowers and shrubs fiom graves In the city cemetery. That body has authoricd the Majoi to ofTor a reward re-ward of $10.00 foi the apprehension of any such person or persons and the Assistant Sexton has lH?en made a special officer in older that he may ai-lcst ai-lcst without delay any person whom he may suspicion. This is the kind of vandalism that calls for severest condemnation. From astandpolnt of right, one mlghtas well steal the gravestone, or the corpse within the grave. Flowers and shrubs arc planted In love and com-meration, com-meration, and the gravestone Is placed there in loving memory also. The stone costs more, so far as the financial finan-cial outlay is concerned, but the cultivation culti-vation of nature's beauties requires time, patience and careful attention that represent moie than the dollar. It. is hard to Imagine one so devoid of tho finer sentl.nents that go to make up a clvlll7ed being as to visit a graveyard grave-yard and deliberately appropriate to himself the love tokens of friends who have rendered that homage with aching ach-ing hearts and tear dimmed ejc. It would seem that such an one's con- science would cause him to wake up o' nights with an Icy hand upon his brow and his soul pierced by eyes terrible ter-rible In their reproach. Yet thcic bo those who arc not over sensitive and to these, if caught, the penalty should be so severe that It Is calculated to aiousc a disposition to cultivate tlner sentiments sutllclcntly to keep within the bounds of public decency. |
