LIUKNO.U1ST reported as follows: I feel to welcome the visitors here today fiom other wauls. 1 am hardly capable of reporting re-porting tho vailous organlallons as I would like to have done. The entire en-tire bishopric have been mulcted with sickness tho past w Inter and we could not attend to our duties as we desired to. We have in the ward (120 members and 117 families.' The majority of tho ward teachers have performed a good work also tho acting priests, the other organisations have done a fairly good work. Wo have Impioved lucontii-butlng lucontii-butlng towards the fast otTciingand contingent funds over last year. Our ward records aro complete. The ward choir has been cry faithful and performed per-formed clllclent work. Our tithing was a little fess'last jear. Work will begin on our new meeting house in tlio near future. The bishopric is united un-ited and work In peifcct harmony. COUNCILLOlt A. 31. 1SKAKLSON said I am asked to say a few wouls and I suppose report myself. As a bishopric we have been unable to perform per-form our whole duty on account of sickness In each of our families. There is an united splrjt in tho bishopric bishop-ric and In our ward. Tho Sunday school Is doing a good work, as also tlio other organisations. 1 have felt it a great task to act as a bishop's councillor, and I havo done tho best I could. Our meetings would be better attended if our house was larger, so as to accommodate the people. Councillor Elaln Allen said: I feel well spiritually, but not so well physically. physi-cally. The more 1 work at my duties the bettor I feel In the work. John W. Jensen, ward clerk then presented the names of the oftlccrs of the ward, who were all sustained by unanimous vote. O. M. WILSON, Supt. of Sunday schools said. 1 did not expect to report this afternoon as our Sunday school conference will tcke place in the near future. Wc have 1 officers and teachers and 170 scholars. Our average attendance Is not so good as it should be but wc arc improving and expect to do much better this year. ' As to our treasury wc have on hand $7.00. Wc have provided pro-vided our school with song books and donated to the meeting house fund $20. The Supcrlntcndcncy arc united in our labors, perfectly, and I am en-Joying en-Joying the Sunday school work. BIHTKlt MINA UNBWOItTII reported the Relief society: Wc have a membership of 03 and received last year $170.20. We gave for charitable purposes .0.00 and have on hand 088 bushels of wheat. Wc have started a fund for our meeting house and have gatheicd up $75.00. Wc arc disturbed In our meetings on week days by the school children, as wc meet In a room adjoining the school house. l'UKSlDENT V. V. l'AUKINSON said: 1 have enjoyed my visit with the people of the First ward today very much. I met those keeping record re-cord this morning, andean say there is a great improvement in this direction. direc-tion. The First ward records are the best 1 have seen in the Stake, that Is the genealogical rccoids. In looking over the rolls theie is an average attendance of 50 per cent In all your organizations. This Is 10 per cent better bet-ter than the Stake records showed last year. The poorest attendance, according to your records is with tho Elders Quorum, and Relief society. 1 am well pleased with the attendance here today and if your meetings arc as well attended as this one, you will compare favorably with any ward in the Stake. The people, of Hyrum have been burdened with buildings and improvements improve-ments and you will be burdened for some time. 1 have actually been trying try-ing to get the church authorities to make appropriations towards these buildings, and expect to continue my labors in this direction. 1 believe wc have Improved since the old Cache Stake was divided. Every ward in our Stake lias Improved and arc doing well now. Wc want to advance some of our young men Into the Seventy's Quorum so that wc can have more missionaries from that Quorum. You should give more attention to the education of the young men and voung women. The day we arc living in calls for education, and wc should take advantage of the opportunites as they picsent themselves. 1 have noticed, In this Stake that there Is room for Improvement by way of being be-ing loyal to yourselves, 1 have noticed notic-ed In my travels that there Is'a great deal of travel over the roads to Logan and you arc running theie with the money you have earned by hard labor on your farms, In keeping cows, and In vailous ways, Old you ever hear of Logan coming heic to spend moneyV No! 1 never did, and you are not loyal to youisehes and your town when you tiadc elsewheie for things you can get here. I would not be afraid to guaiantee that if you trade lieie with your own merchants through the year you can buy Just as cheaply and that you will get Just as good values for .your money as you : can in Logan. If you want to hire a mautowoik look for a man in your own town. If jou want to buy a lioise, pinchasc It from your neighbor who has one to spate and build up your own town. It lssulcidlal to run to Logan witli your means. 1 am not saying this for tho benefit of the mei-chants mei-chants altogether but I believe in being be-ing loyal to my own town. Wcaie living In the center of a Stake, and we should lenieinbcr that wc arc expected ex-pected to build up our town and our-seises, our-seises, and draw the other wards tills way. Pationlo your merchants here at home, and give them an opportunity opportun-ity to stock up, and thereby meet jour requirements. He then spoke of the great work to done by the missionaries in the world and admonished the young people to live good, clean, pine, lives, so that they could assist In the great cause of redeeming fallen men. He also admonished ad-monished tho Saints to live their religion better, and be diligent In the duties, to pay their tithes and offerings offer-ings and receive the benefits derived therefrom, to pay their way as they go and not become obligated. Judging from the close attention the conference was very much enjoyed by those present. The Flist ward choir never did better singing and they aro making rapid advancement. Tho business of the conferenco was expedited in a very nice way and the audience escaped that long protracted method they aro usually Invited to participate in. |
