Normally, Clarkston is Democratic, but one of the mein-beisof mein-beisof the town boaid Is a Republican. Republi-can. The Democrats called for a Citizens Citi-zens primary to be held on the Monday Mon-day preceding election. Notices were posted, and not until they weic warned of Illegality was it decided to hold the primary on Saturday, tho last day allowed by law. Inquiry was mado as to whether the primary was .intended to be a meeting of the citizens citi-zens legardlcss of political alllliation and tho answer was "yes". Various members of each paity met at the appointed place. There were a number num-ber of nominations made but the men nominated lefused to accept. Finally It was decided that the old boaid should hold over, so Mr. James Jar-dine Jar-dine was selected as the 4-jear man and all went home believing that all was settled and no election was necessary. Lo, and behold, on Monday Mon-day some notices of election weic posted and on Tuesday the Democrats Demo-crats went to the polls and voted. They scratched tho name of the Republican Re-publican member of the board and elected W. L. Thompson, Deiuociat, Instead all this after the matter had been settled at the regulaily called primary. The Republicans are Indignant In-dignant at tills treatment and condemn con-demn It as a piece of political tieach-ciy tieach-ciy that should not be countenanced. They aie willing to admit that Clink-ston Clink-ston Is Demociatlc and for that ica-son ica-son can not see why trickery should bcresoited to. In all piob:tbillty the matter will be carried a little further than Just wordy denunciations, for tho Republicans feel that theie Is no excuse ex-cuse for this action of tho opposition. |
