Show The Democrats. II. E. Hatch Is tho efficient cashier of the Thatchei lhos. Hanking Co. He Is also a stockholdci In the Logan PowerCo., with which tho city will soon come Into competition, a fact which should not make him especially especial-ly favoicd by the citizens. It may also al-so do said of Mr. Hatch, that It hasn't been so veiy long slnco he found his own affairs too pressing to serve the city and lcslgncd fiom the council. It would not be creditable to Mr. Hatch for us to say that his business has grown less or duties fewer and less icsponslble, so we must conclude that ho Is baldly better prepaied to seive the city than before especially slnco the duties of the council have become much greater. While a pci-fect pci-fect gentleman and capable businessman, business-man, there is no good leason why ho should be given the prefcience over Mr. II. G. Danlelson or Olif Peterson. Honor Cai lisle Is now connected with the Logan Nurseries and while he once made a pietty fair baibcr, has no particular qualifications that would make him a supciior councilman. council-man. John It. Edwaids deserves a very favorable mention and we arc glad to give It. Heisalwaslo be found In the lino of piogicss and has done much to build up the city. He is ic-gaulcd ic-gaulcd asa tlist-class saloon man and good citizen. However we cannot te-gaid te-gaid any man who conducts a saloon business as tit to make laws for tho city especially when them Js pitted against him a man who has all his good attributes and none of his bad-Mi. bad-Mi. John Ciawfoid. The fact that a man is a "good saloon man" Is not a recommendation to the oteis, for It Is known that the "respectable" saloon sa-loon is the most dangeious of all. Mr. Edwards Is hardly tho proper man to send to the council In preference to Mr. Crawford. Robert Anderson is a bookkeeper in Anderson & Son's mill and Is regaidcd re-gaidcd as a very genteel young fellow, but there Is none of that remarkable business ability manifest which "the only" has been kicking for. He Is Just a fair, average gentleman. W. Woiley is a contractor and Jfiom what we know of him, a very successful success-ful man in his business, but ho is not a better man than T. II. Smith, the man whom he Is up against. He is a good man, but will hardly come up to thatcxtiaoidlnaiy standard which "the onl" set up before die pri maries C. T. Hairctt Is an architect of unquestioned un-questioned abllit and a man who usually attends to his own business, a very commendable feature. Hut will "the only" point vvliJieln his archl-tectuial archl-tectuial qualifications made him I'KCULiAULV fitted to plan successfully success-fully for tho city that Is in such an A wkul shape? "The onl " set a very high standaid. N. M. Hansen Is one of tho Demo-tiatlc Demo-tiatlc membcis of tho council and has piovcd himself a valued member. Ho has usually voted with the Republican Repub-lican majoilt), and "the only" sas thatmajoilty has been "dishonest," Is Incompetent, has squandered and mismanaged the money. Personally wo believe Mi. Hansen is a good man, but accoiding to "tho onlv" he Is haidly the man for the place he has tilled so saf'shotorll. George a J. ms Is a carpenter and might be able to build a good lluan-ul.il lluan-ul.il structuie for the city, but It Is doubtful If he could do so to the satisfaction satis-faction of the immaculate, all wise Demociatlc organ. Mr. Guy Thatcher Is a popular oung business man and comes from a family that has alwas been highly honored In this county. He is a perfect per-fect gentleman but like tho rest of the bunch hasn't et mado a recoid that entitles him to a standing In that unexcelled un-excelled class demanded by "tlioonlv". It has been geneiall undeistood that Mr. Thatcher Is also a stockholder stock-holder In the Logan Power Co., and the same objection can be made to him as to Mi. Hatch. t |
