Wednesday afternoon the students and faculty gathered together In the reading room to give a farewell reception recep-tion to Mr. Walker, who has been the college coach for two years. Muslo was furnished by an orchestra and 'Mr. Stratford sang and Miss Laura Manghan gave a piano solo. President Presi-dent Wldtsoe gave a talk, showing how Mr. Walker's work had raised the atletlc standard of the college. Prof. Langton ascribed the great love that students bear to their alma mater to the Increased Interest in athletics. Prof John T. Calne III spoke as a personal friend of Mr. Walker, and Captain Brossard, after telling of the inspiration and line training the team had received, presented Mr. Walker with a handsome college banner. Refreshments Re-freshments were then served and a social hour ended one of the most pleasant occasions of the college year. Well groomed in-every particular apd oozing morality and smug respectability respect-ability from every pore, Mrs. E. E. Shepherd of Salt Lake addressed the students In chapel on Monday in the Interests of the W. C. T. U. The San Pete. people heard the word gladly! On Tuesday afternoon a basket ball game was plajcd in the college gymnasium gym-nasium between last year's team and a team from the Fifth ward. The game was very close, standing at the end of the first half 11 to 7 in favor of the Fifth ward, but the college finally final-ly won by a score of 21 to 24. The proceeds of the game were given to Mr. Wm. McNiel, who leaves shortly to till a mission. .The joung women of the Sorosls will give a dance in the Pavilion on December 7. It will be strictly an Indication In-dication affair. MlssChloe Smoot of Provo, daughter daugh-ter of Senator Smoot, was the guest of Miss Vida Dixon '10 the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Morrell entertained enter-tained Wednesday evening for Coach Walker and the football team. E llothcray, a graduate of the Yalo Forestry school, will give two months courses In forestry subjects. There will bo now courses In dairying, sugar beet growing, and commerce, besides the usual subjeots. The subject of the debate Is as follows: Besolved, that the federal feder-al government should levy a proportional propor-tional Income tax, provided that only a federal Income tax shall be advocated advocat-ed and that the constitutionality ot the question shall not be discussed. |
