PB The quarterly conference of pfl the Hyrum Stake of Zion was H 3ield in the Wdlsville (tabernacle fl -Saturday and Sunday, June 27 H and 28. There were present of M the general Church authorities, M President Anthon H. Lund, Apos- M tie Hebcr J. Grant and President M Charles If. Hart, together with Jfl the local authorities of the Hyrunt Jfl Stake and some officials of the H adjoining stakes in Cache county. M President "Win. C. Parkinson H .rendered the report of the condi- HH j lion of the stake during the pre- JH -ceding three months and it show- Jfl y-ed a very material improvement H . from that of former periods. H Sunday morning the following H speakers addressed Klhe congre- H s (ration, and a brief extract of the H addresses are printed, in their HH order as delivered. M Oharlet S. Hart. H President Charles II. Hart: I PB ieel the need my brethren and H sisters of the assistance of the HH .Lord to edify and instruct a con H grcgation such as this'of the Lat- PS tcrday Saints. It is the exper- H jenco of our elcjers, if they rely H upon their own faith, they are H able to do very little in preaching pfl the gospel. It is also their ex-H ex-H i jerieirce "that when they are b mL blessed with the spirit of the BT s JLord, they are attended by the lH laith and prayers of the audi- H nce to which they speak, they H iliave words of instruction tliafarc H above the wisdom and power of PH 1he individual Himself. B If we could realize fully the 8H importance of the message that H wun conveyed to the Prophet Jo- H seph Smith; ifVwe could feel in H every fiber of our bodies the PH truth of all those glorious mani- H testations, I am sure we would be H more diligent in serving our Path- H er in heaven. If we , felt that PH tiiere is no myth about any of IB these matters that have come PHJ down to us by tradition, by his- pflj 't'ory, by word and mouth from H one brother to another but1 through B God's guidance of this great work H of His; that the boy Prophet did H go into the woods and that the H great Father did condescend Ho B come to earth to reveal His glorj- B ous personage, that the Angel B Moroni came to strengthen . tho m boy Prophet from year to year, B that the golden plaites were nc- B tually delivered to him and trans- J lated by tho gift and power -of DJ God; if we could haTC these tilings burned into our very be- ings so tha't wo should not bo in B a position of mind where we H 'should be in a passive mood, so Ave could bo in a position to say "I B don't disbelieve tihesc things," Jpj but if wo could be in a position Bl, to fully realize the gloriousness and tho importance of all those mnnifestnlion.s, I think ' there B would not be the back-sliding nl ( 'at 'iero ia W''H us ns o people. BB" " President Lund. ji- President Anthon II. Lund: B -"It gives mc inuqh joy this morn- W ing to meet with the Saints of B this Stnko and that wo Qinvc tho J privilego of meeting in fuch a B beautiful house as this. I have bBI enjoyed the morning meeting 1 with the children and listening to 1 the singing and to tho .remarks Bb of Brother Hart, who dwelt upon BM tlio'life of the Prophet Joseph H Hli B Smith. "Last night when we stepped into his house Brother Grant reminded re-minded mo that it was tho anniversary anni-versary of the martrj-dom of the Prophet, and we looked at our watches and it was about the hour making Who difference in time that sad event happened, when wicked men slew the Prophet of the Latter-days. Joseph Jo-seph Smith was a Prophet of the Lord, though his name lias been held, as the Angel said, for evil among men,- it has also been held for good. We that are assembled here (this morning rejoice in that which was wrought by that man. From the time that the Church was organized until Ihe was called away from us was but little more than fourteen years, yet in itihat time how much had been accomplished." SUNDAY AFTERNOON. Bishop Owen: I 'never was more happy in my ilfe than today to-day and during this conference, due to the fact that we have about realized the dream of six years go. I don't want' at ftluis timeB to give a detailed account of the work... In speaking to President Smith several days ago I asked him if there was anything special to tell the people here assembled today. He said "tell them' thiit the building is out of debt. That is nil." We humbly osk it in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen." Apostle Heber J. Grant Apostle Ileber .1. CJnlnti: " I am thankful to have the opportunity of being present on this occasion, and I trust that thewinarks that I may nuiko shall bo for our mutual mu-tual benefit! and may be calculated calcula-ted in their nature to inspire us to renewed diligence in tho discharge of tho duties that devolve upon us. I was very much interested in tho remarks made here this morning morn-ing by PrcsidcntLund in his reference refer-ence (to tho Prophet Joseph Smith, and to the f aot) that yesterday was tho sixty-fourth anniversary of tho martyrdom of thoProphet and Patriarch. My mind whilo listening listen-ing to him was filled with many reflections regarding how futilo are the efforts of individuals who raise their hands against the work of the Lord. When I realize that we assembled 'here yesterday in j general confyrnei1 of this stake of j Zion nnd upon the anniversary of i the martyrdom, of the Prophet I i 'realize that this was one of the i many fine nnd beautiful buildings of worship that have been erected from Canada on the NorthxtoMex-ico NorthxtoMex-ico on the South), and I was impressed im-pressed with the fact' and the force of the saying, "thatnothing can, be done against the work of God but what shall be done for it." No iiiiiiti can believe something that he doubts; no man-can ever warm the iLienr-lb of peo'ple by pleaching the gospel as lnid down in the Bible if he does not have burning within bis henrt the testimony testi-mony of Jesus Christ. The one thing that! makes the Latter-day Saint ciders successful is that they go out to preach this gospel with the knowledge- thnt ihey possess the truth." Too mucin .praise cannot be given the Wellsville people in entertaining en-tertaining their visiting saints and sinners. Every one was treated alike. Partiality was thrown aside and the spirit of brotherly love was handed out oh overy side. The Wellsville brass band wns out on Saturday and Sunday and. rendered appropriate music for the occasion, but the main feature of the entertainment for the visitors was the pen-lhcnrt ed, whole-souled, and pleasing hos pitality which they were accorded. accord-ed. Wellsville has the reputation anyway of doing things' the proper pro-per way and the refreshing lime Avill perhaps, bo long remembered by those who participated. |
