Show Republican County Convention Delegates to State Convention Named. W. H. Thain Made County Chairman. The Republican County Convention held In this city last Saturday for the selection of delegates to the State Convention at Salt Lake City to-mor. row was exceptionally well attended and marked by an Interest and enthusiasm en-thusiasm that augurs well for tho party during the, coming campaign. Former conventions of this nature have seldom excited extraordinary Interest and It has been dltllcult to secure men willing to act as delegates. This tliuo many more than the allotment desired to go. Cache sends .'!!) this year, but among the ctelegates could havo been found from 50 to 75 who would have accepted the honor. The convention was harmonious In every sense, and the business was hustled through with In pretty fair time. Ered Turner of Tub RKrun-i.icAN RKrun-i.icAN was named as temporary chairman, chair-man, and Lorenzo Hammond as temporary tem-porary secretary. Mr. Turner held back the flood of oratory with which he might overwhelmed tho delegates, and proceeded to business. On motion the chair named committees on cre dentials and organization and order of buslnecs, after which a short adjournment adjourn-ment was taken. The committee on credentials reported re-ported soven of tho smaller districts as not represented and it was decided that theso should havo no representation representa-tion in the state convention. The following permanent ofllcers of tho convention were presented: Chairman II. A. Pederson. Vice-chairman A. M. Israelsen. Secretary Mrs. Uoynton. Asst. Secretary Mrs. Grllllths. Chaplain Wm. H. Maughan. Sergt-at-arms Martin Olsen. Mr. Pedersen was tendered an ovation ova-tion as ho accepted the chair, and he then proceeded to business without preliminaries. Mayor Robinson was called upon to occupy the time required by a special committee to straighten out tho dlill-culty.and dlill-culty.and though unprepared, Logan's chief officer madon splendid address, ttic burden of which was that a change In government should not be made at a tlmo when a carefully thought-out policy of accepted worth had been but half inaugurated. On reconvening the following delegates dele-gates were named: Benson L. F. Roundy. Hyrum H.B.Ames, T. V. Peterson, Soren Hansen, W. U. Parkinson. Logan-rWra. M. Smith, II. A. Pedersen, Ped-ersen, Herbert Hawkes, Cal Cressal, George Thomas, W. II. Thaln, George Cole, II. Uullcn Jr., J. A. Hendrlck-son, Hendrlck-son, E. W. Itoblnson, Fred Turner, A. Burrls, Walter McLaughlin, Joseph Odell, J. V.. Stewart Jr., W. Hansen. Mlllvlllo John Johnson. Mindon II. J. IMchaads. Newton E. M. Larson. Providence Joseph A. Smith, J. J. Fredorlck. Paradlso-J. Covevllle Joseph S. Allen. County Chairman. Fred Turner named W. II. Thaln to succeed himself as county chairman. Mr. Turner pictured his candidate as all but an angel. Joel Ricks said Mr. Turner's description fitted another man equally as well, and named H. A. Pcdorsen. The latter said ho wasn't a candidate, but If the convention desired him he would accept. Mr. Petersen finally asked his friends to withdraw his namo and Mr. Thaln was named by acclamation. II. Uullcn Jr. then nominated Mr. pedersen to succeed himself as a member mem-ber of the State Committee. Uullcn said some gloriously good things of II. A. and ho went In with a whoop. Tho convention adjourned with tho best of feeling. It was and Is clearly cvldint that there is no break from Congressman Howell. |
