Show E. R. MILES JR. HAS A BIG TIME Furnishes Smithfield With Music and Souvenirs. Mention of People There Who Come and Go. SMITHFIELD, March 1, 1IKH. -The "grand-opening" of E. It. Miles Jr.'s stoio on Friday was a great success, a musical heat from early morn till late at night. Throughout the day the Smllhllcld band furnished music, various vari-ous Instrumentalists rendered selections selec-tions on the piano, and songs were sung by K. J. Hammer, Oeorgo Douglass, Doug-lass, E. II. Luiidqulst, Miss Benson, Mrs. Miles and Miss Hay Noble. Tho storo was decorated, presenting a very artistic and thoroughly "tasty" appearance, and as a wholo the occasion occa-sion could hardly have been more delightful. de-lightful. It Is a gratifying fact that almost every "person hi tlie city and vicinity called at tlie Miles store some time during the day. It Is particularly gratifying for tho icasou that Mr. Miles has been endeavoring to give us a thoroughly modern and highly convenient con-venient store and the response of the public on this day seems to show at least a sort of appreciation of his efforts. Hcsldcs hearing the splendid program, tho ladles wcro given a very acceptable souvenir of ot the occasion, and needless to say they were deeply appreciative. Tho Miles "opening" was all uud moic than could have been expected and he has been the recipient of hearty congratulations. Personal Mention. On Wednesday night a party was given for Miss Nclllo Weeks. This was a "pin party," each invited guest bringing her some sort of pin as a gift. Thero was a great variety presented, a rolling pin among the number. All voted Nclllo a royal entertainer. The Homo Dramatic company's presentation of "The Gypsy Queen" last Saturday night was highly satisfactory satis-factory to a largo audience, tho various vari-ous actors and "actorlncs" taking their Individual parts with distinct credit to themselves. Mrs. AnnoO. Smith, teacher In tho city schools, has resigned and gouo to Salt Lako city where sho acd her husband hus-band proposo to go into business. A Miss Ilcnson, ot Whitney, has taken her placo as teacher. Mrs. James Mack and daughter Wanda returned to Ogden on Wednesday Wednes-day after a pleasant visit with us. Tho many friends of Miss Alvaretta Smith aro pleased to see her out again after u sovero attack of la grippe. Prof. Evan Hansen has morcd his family to McCammon, and he will teach muslo there. Mrs. Mary Harris, of Lewisvlllc, Idaho, returned home Friday. James Thornley left thlsmornlng for Cottonwood canyon, where ho is employed em-ployed in the mines.
