Joseph Howell, Utah's representative repre-sentative In the lower house of congress, con-gress, arrived home last night, bringing bring-ing with him as a special gift, to Logan Lo-gan and Cache county a $.10,000 Federal Fed-eral building. This Is Indeed a princely prince-ly gift at his hands, and under any circumstances must be appreciated greatly, but it Is not a matter of record re-cord that the public urged this matter upon Mr. Howell at any time, and coining as a free will offering, It Is doubly acceptable from him. When It Is considered that in his efforts for this $50,000 appropriation Mr. Howell must necessarily have worked at a serious disadvantage In many ways enumerated en-umerated heretofore, his linal securing secur-ing of the appropriation certainly reflects re-flects distinct credit upon his energy, ability as a lobbyist and his personal popularity among his fellow congressmen. congress-men. Tins Rki'Uhlican feels that Mr. Howell is entitled to hearty congratulations con-gratulations In this particular Instance In-stance and we believe that in extending extend-ing to him words of hearty appreciation apprecia-tion we but voice the sentiments of not only his republican constitutenls, but the kindly feelings of Democracy as well. Mr Howell returns to Utah with many claims for consideration. Mr. Howell secured the passage of rdorc than a dozen special pension bills, and this Is an unusual number for a member of the house, tho average aver-age being about six each. He secured the passage of a bill correcting cor-recting tne military record of Harry A. Young, who was killed In the Philippine , and other bills of minor Importance. He was particularly instrumental In the Strawberry Valley project, and various and sundry minor affairs. Mr. Howell unquestionably did good service In a general way, exceptional service for Logan, and If ho now jumps Into tho fray In behalf of tho Agricultural Agri-cultural College, as wo believe ho will, ills home-coming will be as that of a conquering heiJ. |
