Show I At Magrath A Grand Reception Given by Citizens? I MAGltATII, Canada, June 111, 1000. One of the largest crowds over I gathered at the station of Magrath assembled Saturday, June Hi, to greet "The Woman's Press club," a body'of the finest women In the world whoVc chosen for their life work the publishing publish-ing of papers or magazines, and writing writ-ing for some worthy sheets the truths concerning this goodly land, also Jho advantages and opportunities ottered every class of people under the sun except ex-cept the class no country wants. What a sight to behold-all the little school children were lined up on the platform with their arms full of beautiful beau-tiful lloweis. As the train stopped our excellent brass band struck up a patriotic air and the children stepped forward and presented tho Mowers; It was Indeed touching. After hearing the speech of welcome given so splendidly splen-didly by '., T. Jacobs, one of the lady editors replied, and Introduced the lady who was to address us She was greeted warmly and spoke In a very Interesting manner. The band played play-ed that soul stirring tunc, "God save the King", and three little girls presented pre-sented the visitors with a silk "Union Jack", written In the corner, "Compliments "Com-pliments of Magrath, June HI, 'OU." Many were moved to tears and declared de-clared they had received no warmer welcome at any place In the Dominion. The editor of OUR paper was In great evidenced and gave to each of his colleagues col-leagues a copy of the Pioneer, and they were highly delighted with same. We are all proud of the reception tendered ten-dered and returned home feeling that It had been a day well spent. . Apostle John W. Taylor was a speaker at the sacrament meeting last Sunday. He has been one of the leading lead-ing pioneers and settlers in this country, coun-try, helping to lay out the cities and towns in the Mormon district, and encouraging en-couraging all to stay, as'thls would be some day the best country In the world. These promises have come true but Hro. Taylor is leaving this country now to take up his abode In Provo. He has labored faithfully for tills country for twenty-live years and leaves with the love and respect of every man, woman'and child. We all wish him every success In his new home. " The Alberta Land and Stock Co. has closed tl)o sale of land to the Illinois, Iowa and Mlnnesota,real estate men, twelve thousand acres of the best farming land out of doors, These people will bring in settlers of the right kind and make nourishing towns and villages In short order. Charles Morccr, uncle of our postmaster, post-master, Is up from Sterling, Illinois with an Idea of buying a large tract of land. He Is or has been a butcher all his life, but feels that a farm In this country would bo worth all the trades in the calendar. He knows a good tiling when lie sees It. A meeting was held last week for the purpose of selectlnga committee to prepare a big celebration for "Dominion "Do-minion Day". George Heathershaw was chosen chairman. Wo all know what that means, for lie is a rustler. Your Fourth Of July will be tame compared com-pared with the good time In store for us. |
