Show HORSES VALUED AT $50,000 Shown at the Fair in Logan Saturday. Affair Great Success. The Awards. In point of numbers of splendid horses on exhibition and people In attendance, at-tendance, the horse show held In this city last Saturday was a decided success. suc-cess. From a thousand to tlftccn hundred hun-dred lovers of lioiscllcsh went to the A. C. of U. to sec the exhibition and woic surprised and immensely pleased at (he mngnlllcent showing. Tho number of very line stallions was large, and the splendid marcs and draft horses elicited the most favorable favor-able comment. A conservative estimate esti-mate of the value of the animals shown places the amount In tho vicinity vicin-ity of $50,000. No Parade. The only seriously disappointing feature was the failure to secure a parade, pa-rade, but the Judging occupied such time that many of the exhibitors could not well, remain. Public announcement an-nouncement of the proposed parado was made and tho horsemen were requested re-quested to huld their animals for a trip down through the city where a large number of people were waiting expectantly, but the hour was too lato for exhibitors living at a distance and the procession was not formed. One Other Difficulty. A little dissatisfaction is said to have resulted from the fact that some of the horses were not judged. Prof. Clark, who had the show In. hand, says In reference to this matter that "as the horses were not entered until they had reached the show rng, no estimate previous to the show could bn made as to the number and classes of animals that would be shown. It would have been much moro satisfactory had the owners of horses given this Information a few days, hours or minutes In advance, i there were any horses that wcie not Judged it was because tho parties In charge of the show were not so Informed Inform-ed until after the animals had been taken from the grounds. Classes unprovided un-provided for were formed as soon as it was learned that there were horses for them." Judges and Awards. The Judges of tho horses weioJas. Devlne, cx-llrc chief of Salt Lake, and Prof. John T. Calne III, both recog nized as exceedingly capable horsemen, anil while somo dissatisfaction resulted, re-sulted, it Is generally considered that the work was done well. Tho show should become an annual feature and to make it a success the horsemen of Cache Valley should get together, talk tho matter over, decide on place of meeting, appoint a competent com-petent Judge from outsldoof the state, and run things to suit themselves. The horse show Is well worth the while, but it can be nothing without unity and activity on the part of horsemen. |
