Show AS TO CRITICISM. "Politics" docs not demand uf the opposite party paper that it shall criticise every ofllcial act of the party in power. "Politics" Is not excuse or reason for hunting up Insignificant matters that may be magnified and made to seem as they aro not. Nor does politics warrant the party paper In defending ill-advitcd action of the party in power. 'Inn Republican has not hesitated heretofore to offer criticism of its party members and olllclals where it doubted tho wisdom of their course, and at no time has It attempted to cover up discrepancies of these olllclals that should have been made public. When adverse criticism has been made, Thk Rk-1'UHLICAN Rk-1'UHLICAN has Investigated In a friendly friend-ly way with a desire to get at the facts and has seldom found that cause for criticism that is always so apparent ap-parent to that other party organ in this city. Thk Rei-uiilican believes that In matters where the city is so vitally affected as In the success or failure of the municipal light plant, no thing should bo said or done calculated cal-culated to interfere with the success desired. Despite tho fact that the council or Electric Light Committee Is made of democrats and republicans, all are there to do their best to work out the situation to the best advantage advant-age of Logan. It any man, be he a newspaper icporter or editor, or any other dignitary, sees a Haw In method In this, that or the other department, or perchance has a thought he believes to be of advantage, advant-age, would It not be a. better and more satisfactory move to sco the Mayor or tho Committee and present his views rather than engage in adverse criticism criti-cism on the street or in a newspaper? Until there arc serious difficulties and a disposition on the part of tho officials of-ficials to refuse kindly counsel offered in a friendly spirit, can rank criticism help the cause? Doesn't it rather tend to destroy tho confidence of the people In the plant rather than the official. It does and will. We do not believe that anything has yet been done that warrants the continued hammering of that party paper which seems to labor under the Impression that it Is not serving its purpose unless un-less it Is engaged In making "political capital" out of any and every official action of that party not Its own. |
