Felstead One of The City's Most Prominint Scandinavians Scan-dinavians Succumbs to Grim Reaper President 0. U. FJeldstcad, one of the best known and beloved of the Scandinavians In this city and Cache valley, died at tho L. I). S. hospital In Salt Lake city last Saturday at 1:40 p. in., following an operation that was performed a few days previous. The news of his death came with deepest regret to hundreds, even thousands of friends, who have always known him as a conscientious christian, chris-tian, a good man in every respect. Since Joining the Latter-day Saints In 1851, his whole life has been devoted to others, he performing home and foreign missions throughout his life. In his native language he was a fluent speaker, and In the English language he would Impress his hearers as being a very conscientious man In all thai he said. He was a man of original Ideas and was forceful In discussions. dis-cussions. It, may be said in truth that there are not many who have converted more people of his nationality nation-ality than he. Ho was a man that was universally loved, kind In his disposition, dis-position, broad-minded and liberal with those who differed from him on any topic. 0, I). Kelstead was born on thclsl- and Atnagcr, a province of Denmark, February 2()th, 1821). He Jollied the church in l&il, served continuously as a home mlsslonaiy until 1H.VH, when he emigrated to Utah. He located in the Sugar House ward In Salt Lake county and lived there until the spring of 1872. At the April confei-enccofthat confei-enccofthat year lie was called as a missionary to labor amongst the Scandinavians in tho north, at which tlmo ho moved to Logan and resided here ever since. He served on four missions to Scandinavia. He was called and ordained as one of tho seven Presidents of Seventy to till tho vacancy va-cancy caused by the death of John Vancot In 1S8.I. The selection or C. I). Felstead lo this position was pai-tlally pai-tlally due to the dying request of John Vnncott, who asked that a Scandinavian Scan-dinavian be selected to succeed him. C. D. Felstead was president of the Scandinavian mission when he was called to lilt this position He has also served on home missions, Including Includ-ing one to Chicago.
