Show : A.J the World I for Mayor of JTete yorl(. Edward Morse Shepard, who has been nominated by the Democrats for maior of New York is a lawyer. He was born in New York city in 1850 and graduated from the College of the City of New York in 1S69. He is a director direc-tor in numerous railroad and other corporations, and has been active in politics during the last ten years. In 1S94 he opposed the nomination of David B. Hill for governor, and organized organ-ized an independent Democracy. In 1895 he was the candidate of the independent in-dependent Democracy for mayor of Brooklyn and was defeated by Frederick Freder-ick W. Wurster by nearly 67,000 votes. In 1896 he opposed the nomination of Bryan for President and was made a delegate to the gold Democratic convention con-vention at Indianapolis. In 1897 he supported Seth Low for mayor of E. M. SHEPARD. Greater New York, and the year following fol-lowing supported Augustus Van Wyck for governor. He joined the Bryan faction in 1899 and made peace with Hugh McLaughlin, Democratic boss of Brooklyn. During the last Presidential Presiden-tial campaign he made several speeches for Bryan and presided at the Bryan mass-meeting held in Madison Square Garden. He recently declared that Brooklyn favored Controller Coler for mayor. He lives at 172 Congress street, Brooklyn, and has an ofllce at 111 Broadway, New York. |
