OCR Text	Show THIS MOB WAS FOILED. Attempt to Lynch a Prisoner Prevented Prevent-ed by Cool-Headed Sheriff. A special from Perry, la., says that 300 men gathered at the jail in that city Monday night and attempted tc lynch Stephen Crandall, who was arrested ar-rested as a suspect in connection with the shooting of Harry Patte, the bank cashier, Sunday morning. Ropes were secured and preparations made t6 hang Crandall. At the request of the mayor the local militia company was caled out to guard the jail. While the excited crowd was preparing to deal out summary justice, Sheriff Holmes managed to spirit the prisoner pris-oner away and took him to Adel where he was placed in the county jail.
