A motion was made to endorse Mr. Stevenson. Stev-enson. For this motion Mr. Washburn of Massachusetts moved as a substitute that a Populist be placed- upon the ticket. The substitute was lost on a call of the roll by a vote of 24 ayes to 71 nays, i ' The original motion was then adopted by a viva voice vofe.
