New bills were introduced as follows: Condon, Con-don, for Initiative and referendum; Done, I fixing minimum county school tax; Mrs. Coulter, Coul-ter, by request, leasing of mines; Mrs. Coulter, by request, expenses of judges and district attorneys; Mrs. Coulter, by request, changing I practice in counter-claims; Condon, to prevenl docking horses; Condon, for state humane officer; Stone, amends exemption law: Aus in, to assist in collection of statistics; Colton, annexation, of part of counties. Janaary 30. Senate Senator Lewis had the senate at Tiis mercy on the Barrett bill, regulating the amount of powder or other high explosives to be stored in mines. Senate bill No. 61, the text-book law, was amended and passed by unanimous vote. Senator Lawrence introduced bill No. 66, to enable the attorney in the case to .designate the paper in which notices shall be printed. Senator Lawrence introduced bill No. 67, to provide 'another judge for the third judicial district and enable the governor to appoint a judge, to serve till the next election. Senator Williams introduced bill No. 68, a duplicate for the house bill, making an appropriation appro-priation of $3,000 for the irrigation congress at Ogden. ' ' "''"" Senator Bennlon introduced bill No. 69, providing pro-viding for amending the corporation laws in several particulars. House New bills introduced were: By J. E. Johnson, for experimental farm in Emery county ; by Brink, incorporation of cities, (requiring (re-quiring that the 10J signers of a petition for incorporation shall be prcperty owners as well as qualified electors); Brink, examination of powder men in mines; a measure looking to the safety of miners; Brink, prohibits payment of wages in board; Smith, allowing stock to be driven through Emigration canyon; Cahoon, abolishing capital punishment for murder; McKlnnon, advertising and sale of estrays; Haslam, regulating practice of barber trade. Joint resolution No. 8, providing for a commission com-mission to negotiate for the Arizona strip, passed unanimously. February 3. , Senate Senator Johnson's bill making sheriffs live siock inspectors was passed, the vote being 13 to 5. The joint resolution in favor of the Arizona strip commission was passed.' Senator Sherman introduced a bill relating to surety companies. It is intended to prevent officials giving bonds from private parties, and to compel them to give bonds in some one of the many surety companies doing business in the state. This Is when the bond is over 2,000. . Senator Allison introdued a bill to remodel and make more stringent the state laws as to dentistry. Senator Barber introduced a bill to amend the fish and game laws of the state. House The bill relating to the penalty for grand larceny was passed. Report recommending that McKinley memorial me-morial exercises be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 was adopted and the senate and state officials invited to be present. A bill was introduced by Mr: Brink making it unlawful for any person, corporation, company, com-pany, agent, foreman or employer to enter into any contract with any doctor or surgeon, hospital hos-pital or medical Institution for advice, treatment treat-ment or cure of any disease without the written consent or request of the person or persons so advised, treated or cured. V Mr. McKinnon introduced a bill providing that jurors in justice's courts shall receive 11.50 for each day's attendance, and mileage at the rate of 20 cents. |
