Show NOT MEANT FOR THE HOUSE, j Mistake Put Kansas Statesman In ! Embarrassing Position. Representative A. D. Morris of j Schuyler county had an experience in j the House the other day that was j somewhat mortifying to him for a j short time. He had been writing a j letter to his wife. In his haste to j prepare an amendment to a resolu- j tion that was pending he mistakenly wrote it on the back of a sheet of j paper in the letter and sent it to the clerk's desk. He arose at the same I time and said: "Mr. Speaker, I wish I to offer an amendment." "The gen- J tleman from Schuyler. Mr. Morris, j offers an amendment," said Speaker j Pro Tern. Duncan. "Read it. Mr. j Clerk." Clerk Jeff Pollard, with a quizzical expression, began in an un- I usually loud voice: "My dear Mag- j gie I find myself awfully lonesome i here without you " "Hold on, there. Mr. Clerk," yelled Morris. "That's j not right. That's the wrong side." j The House held its sides to laugh. ' while Morris sunk into his seat with a very red face, and Clerk Pollard I turned the paper and began to read j the resolution. Kansas City Journal, i |
