Ho was confined to his bed loss than n week, when death called him to tho othor side. Funeral services wero conducted Tuosday nftornoon In tho Lohl First Ward with lllshop Fjold officiating. Tho speakers woro Joseph Klrkham, Alfred Kmpey, lllshop Lowls and John ISmppy. Tho choir opened by singing, sing-ing, "God Moves in a Mysterious Way" and following pruyor, by John ltushman, "Though Deepening Trials." Misses Whliomnn and Clark sang a duot and MIbs Molba Fox and' company com-pany a selection. Bendlctlon was offered of-fered by Judgo Ell Kendall. Martin Uushman pronounced tho dedication. Ho lost his mothor when about two years of ago and a year later his father, who had marrlod a widow with a little girl, started for Utah with his family. On tho sea tho wlfo gnvo birth to a baby which cost her life, tho baby also dlolng, they woro both consigned to a watory grave. On tho plains tho Uttlo girl died so Charles names arrived In Utah In tho fall of 1853 with only his son Joseph who wns then a Uttlo over threo years of age. v Soon aftor arriving In Utah his father marrlod Jesslo Nlckols who proved to bo a kind and affectionate mothor to Joseph and who raised him to manhood, when she also died. Joseph's early life was epont with his father working on the farm, his schooling being limited toa fow weeks In tho winter. On January 20, 1875, ho marrlod Emlrn Elizabeth Rhodes and to this union wero born six children, one boy nnd llvo girls. On November C, 1885, ho was left a widower with five small children to caro for. On Juno 27, 1895, ho married Sarah M. James who now survives him. Ho was baptized a member of tlto Church of Jesus Christ of Lattorday Saints in his youth and has successively succes-sively held tho ofllco of Elder, Sovcnty. and at tho tlmo of his death ho was n High Priest. While ho has; not been prominent as a church worker ho has had an abiding faith in tho church and its teachings, During his entlro llfo ho has been an Industrious hard working man, never seeking for position nor publlo honor, but living a nulot peaceful life. Ho was noted for his dry wit nnd congenial disposition. Ho was n good frlond and neighbor, an affcctlonato husband, and a kind father. Ho Is survived by tho following children: Mrs. John Chelton and Joseph E. of Lohl; Mrs. Robert Stod-dart Stod-dart of Lincoln, Idaho; and Jcsso J. of IohI, tho latter bolng a son of his second wife. Ho Is also survived by twenty grand sons nnd nine grand daughters, and six groat grand daughters. daugh-ters. Ho died October 1G, 1921, aged sovonty ono years and nine months. - |
