Show J. D. Thome In Old England . Writes of Preparations For War and Demoralization of Count r.v. A recent letter received from Jas. D. Thome, who Is doing missionary work lu ICngland, contains quite Interesting In-teresting accounts of what the war means there. Some extracts follow. "Klder Wood and I went to Loudon, Tuesday, but tho war has closed the museums and but few places of amusements were open. Tho historic Tower of London Is being used as a recruiting station. Whllo there I thought It best to get a passport, but when wo went to tho American Con-sol, Con-sol, thero were hundreds of Americans Ameri-cans nhead or us nwaltlng their turns. Some or them had paper money which cannot bo used hero. Some' rich Americans clubbed together to-gether and bought a ship. I was at Lewoslo't Tuesday, and It was a sight I shall never rorgct. The Germans hnvo planted a lot or mines In tho North Sea. and every fishing vessel or smack has been called In. There were over 1,200 In the docks, moro than wore over there before. A war ship was thero getting a lot of these ships ready to drag tho sea for 200 miles to elenr It of Gorman mines.
