Experiments upon a. number of men have shown that a man five feet high and weighing 120 pounds will lift on an average 106 poiindb through a vertical distance of eight inches, or 217 poumlB through u height of 1.2 inches. Others 6.1 feet high and weighing 188 pounds could lift the lfiO pounds to a height of 13 inches, or 217 pounds to n height of six inches. Othor men six feet threo inches highland weighing weigh-ing 188 pounds could '" lift 15G pounds to a height of 16 inches, or 217 pounds to a height of nine inches. By a great variety of experiments ex-periments it wns 6hovn that the averngo human strength is equivalent equiva-lent to raising 3Q pounds through a distance of two and onohulf feet in one second. ' |
