Show Z4eomotlves That Ttnrn Oil. The locomotives working through the Arlberg tunnel, on the Austrian State railroad, now burn oil entirety. They are specially designed heavy engines, en-gines, two-cylinder compounds, having hav-ing cylinders C50 mm. and 800 mm. diameter and C25 ra. stroke. They have eight wheels, all coupled, the wheels being 1,300 m, diameter. The engines formerly burned Dohemlan coal, but It was found almost Impossible to ventilate ven-tilate the tunnel. With the oil fuel very tittle difficulty Is experienced. The oil burnors used ore of tho type devised de-vised by Mr. Holrten of the Northwestern Northwest-ern railway, In England. |
