Justlco Ilartch ad' tnlnlstorcd tho oath to tho newly elected elect-ed senators, after which Pcnator Aqulls Nobekor of Rich county was elected president of tho senate, rccolvlng It votes, whllo tho opposing candidate, Senator Joseph Howell of Cache county, received two votes. At 1:50 o'clock a messenger from tho Iioubo announced tho organization ol that body. Senator W. O. Nobokor's motion that a committee on rules be appointed was carried. The president named W. O. Nebekcr, Evans and Howell, and at l:58,on motion of Abel John Evans, the senate adjourned until 3 o'clock thli afternoon. In the House, Salt Lake City, Jan. 10.- Tho house convened nt 12:23, being called to order by Secretary of Stato Hammond. The roll was called and overy member answered an-swered present, after which Justlco Miner administered the oath of ofllce to tho legislators. William M. Roylanco of Utah county, coun-ty, tho Democratic nominee, and John It. Murdock of Heaver county, the nominee of tho Republican cauous, wero placed In nomination for speaker of tho buiiso. The ballot resulted; Roylaner, 40; Murdock, 4., -$- Tho Democratic caucus nominees for tbo following ofilccs vw:ro then chosen by a party-vote; - J, M. Cohen, SnV Lalre, ohlcf clerk; Fred J. On motion of Mr. Shepard, the rules of tho house of the last session were adopted until a proper committee can report new rules. Tho compensation of tho officers of tho house was fixed at 84 per day, excepting for the messengers, mes-sengers, doorkeeper and chaplain, who will receive 83 per day. A communication f'om fin senate, announcing tho organization of that body, was received, and a lllto communication commu-nication was ordered to bo sent from tho house. Tho speaker then appointed appoint-ed Hansen, Robinson and Larson to await, with a lllto commlttco of tho sonato, upon the governor, nnd thereupon there-upon tho first day's session was adjourned adjourn-ed until 2 o'clock today. This afternoon tho Governor's message mes-sage will bo heard. |
