The Sugar Cane quotes & German authority as follows : "The land has almost doubled in value, as the crop following the sugar beets are so much heavier and better in every respect. The cultivation ' of beats in Germany has made many a $ farmer's fin in pay, which previously has only heeit kept joing with difficulty. A good crop of nigar beets means three or four eon-ocutive eon-ocutive good crops of anything you like to grow; the certainty of a successful crop is very much enhanced after sugar beet has been grown. Whereas formerly yields per acre varied greatly, wherever sugar beet has been successfully cultivated culti-vated it has been found that yields are less variable and increase largely. This is duo to the deep cultivation of the soil and the incessant hoeing necessary to produce the beet crop. Ueetroot will not grow where weeds flourish ; they must bo got rid of by hoeing three or four times a ypar, and this constant hoeing hoe-ing and cultivation of tho soil not only result in good beet crops but in better consecutive crops."
