Show fl Profit by Observation H There arc quite a numbers of H the farmers of Lelii who have H raised sugar beets ever sinee the B first location of the factory here. H They have in those years had sev- H eral experiences, some of which H should prove profitable to them Hl in their future labors with the H sugar beet. They have observed B ere this that they cannot get their H !1; land in too good a condition and H that a good seed bed is absolutely H necessary, They have, without B doubt, discovered that when they B find any portion of their land that B is hard, either through neglect of B of proper preparation or otherwise B that the sugar beets grow stubby, B or quite a portion of the beet B grows above the ground. Now B there is a cause for this, and the B root 'tells the cause as plan as can B be told that the ground below is m too hard, yet indicating its willing- B ness to grow and if it cannot get H down any deeper it will grow up- B wards. Here ts where the farm- B er should do a little thinking for K it will pay him to do so. He has m learned by this time that that B portion of the the beet which H grows above the ground is a loss H to him, because it contains no H sugar, or but very little Land for H that reason the factory will not B take it. The farmer may be th H cause of this loss, for if through B neglect he failed to plow his land B the necessary depth the be.ts are B not to blame, either for growing H upwards or out of shape, a thing B they will do every time if the soil B is too hard. This may seem a B simple thing, but it is worth many B dollars to those who will observe B it, for there are many times when B a strict observation would bring B more dollars in return than hard B labor. |
