Show H Old Mexican 3Ilnos. H Whenever u cavo is newly discovered H in New Mexico or Arizona the finder's H ' first hope is that he has unearthed an M old Spanish or Mexican mine, but this B seldom or never has proved to be the B case. Generally these holes in the B mountains are natural caves in lime- B stone or bandstono formations, but B sometimes they lie between walls of B hard rock, which perhaps contain B mineral deposits, indicating that tho B primitive civilized Indiaus may have B v dug their way in following a soft B streak in search of talc to use in pot- B tcry making, with no thought for B precious metals. Stalactites, snowy B white, hang from their roofs, and where B minernl water has percolated these B crystallizations take on gorgeous mo- B taMic hues. Human bones are sorno- B times found in these caves and other B evidences of human work or former B t occupancy. The Coffee cave and Rob- B inson's cave, in the Mack range, in B southern New Mexico, have been ex- B plored for several hundred feet, and B other large caves in that region remain H to be explored. |
