B. Straup of Bingham, In a series of experiments which he has been conducting under suggestion of Captain J. N. t)olph, visiting field director di-rector of military relief of the Red Cross. Dr. Straup is not prepared yet to announce the treatment as a positive cure or preventive, but the results which he has achieved thus far seem to Indicate that both a cure and a preventive have been found. The Bingham physician had one j case of the pneumonia stage In which the patient had. a fever of 104 degrees. A subcutaneous injection of the Parke Da.vis mixed serum reduced the temperature tem-perature to practically normal in less than twenty-four hours and the patient pa-tient is now on the road to recovery. Usually when a ptlent with " this stage of (he Influenza reaches a fever fe-ver temperature of 104 degrees there Is no hope for him and he dies in a few hours. Dr. Straup has been using the same serum as a phophylaxia to prevent Infection1 In-fection1 by dividing one ordinary dose Into three doses of equal parts and Injecting them at Intervals until the full dose has been taken by the patient. pa-tient. In all cases treated with this prophylaxis the persons treated have not contracted the infaction despite the fact that they have leen repeatedly repeated-ly exposed. The serum consists of a mixture of micrococcus catarrhalls, diplococcus pneumonl are, bacteria, pneumoniae and streptoccus pogenes. It is a proprietary pro-prietary serum that may be obtained by physicians at any drug store. |
