Show SCOUT COUNCIL OF ZI ON ION NATIONAL PARK discontinued discontinue D according to received from scoutmaster emaster brown and other men of dauab who attended the so ot of th the a zion national park council at cedar city may 2 and 3 the council of zion national park has been abolished tor for the present and have been joined to the tim council the iron county record ot of may alay 3 says the following i i at a meeting of scout officials cals re 1 LIA I 1 Z fan council of bo boy 1 scouts of america held may 3 at cedar city a decision was reached whereby the council will be abolished and the districts will be taken into the Timpa council with headquarters at provo 1 that a crisis was facing the council was brought to the attention of the officials by oscar kirkham associate regional executive of the 13 fl 11 of A region 12 when after hearing the report bortol ot the council executive of the years work the meeting was turned over to the problem of a scout executive in the past the branch agricultural college has employed john A young ab a part time teacher and he has put in part time as council executive but this year the board of trustees felt that they had no authority to spend i state money tor for scout work thus throwing the ilia whole burden of employing I 1 ng an executive upon the districts three plans were offered by mr air kirkham to be considered cons dered by tho the officials one for the B A C to employ a man as a coordinating co officer ll in the school the school to stand one third of the expense and two other agencies to stand the balance possibly the the grade schools and the city or scouting itself the second was a plan to move the headquarters to the dixie college th in 9 a similar plan as that suggested in connection with witha B A 0 the third was the plan to affiliate with the Timpa council after some discussion it was moved that the plan to join Timpa be disregarded and make an effort to formulate some plan whereby the identity of the flie council could be maintained after a long fong and thorough discussion a committee was war appointed to meet and then report back to the officers the best plan I 1 tills this was done with representative from each district finally coming to to the conclusion that tb the timpas an election ol of officers was to have been held but with the change being made it automatically eliminated all council officers and as each district already had their special officers the election was not necessary to have employed a trained executive tor for the council together with tin the overhead expense would have cost in th neighborhood of 2400 ahila the expense of joining the northern counell council as a whole was placed at GOO the Timpa council will furnish complete office service and the esock tive of that council will have auina ision over the entire district the annual So will be hold held in cedar annually under the now new plan as all has hall been done in the past ald aid tho the dixie college leadership week will also continue to furnish its training I 1 course the only disadvantage apparent from the change Is that the council executive will possibly not be able to put as aa much time in each district as would be the tha case of a separate counell and the matter of being a greater distance from headquarters |
