Show PRESIDENT OF FOURTH YEAR ADDRESS Delivered before the Graduates on Normal Class Day 1 Ladies and gentlemen friends of I the University of Utah tah indeed it is isa isa a pleasure for me in In behalf of the graduating class to extend to you a af f hearty welcome here today This audience bespeaks the growing in interest interest in- in r terest in our public school system It tells of your interest in our University University University Uni Uni- and of the respect you bear it We Weare are indeed aware of the fact that you are responsible for the es establishment establishment es- es es- es establishment and maintenance of our ourI I I Alma Mater It is therefore our duty as well as our pleasure to 1 show the people of this state that their efforts have not been in vain You have contributed your means fY i and exerted your influence and power pow pow- er that we might obtain an I t W tion and it now rests with us to show you that we are better men better women as a result of the training you have provided for us Many times of late have we entertained entertained entertained en en- the idea that we must be bemore bemore bemore more assiduous in our work but at atno atno atno no time has it presented itself more vigorously than at the present We now are standing at the threshold of a new career The world is before before before be be- fore us Our fortunes our names our all are to be made I It t is our purpose and may it be our pleasure to live so that in acquiring these aims we shall reflect credit and honor upon the institution which has prepared us to obtain them And it is our desire here today oday to f fan to greater heat the fires of love and loyalty for that institution May we live so it may be well said of us Come back ye friendships long departed departed departed de de- parted That like overflowing streamlets started started start start- ed And now are dwindled one by one To starry chambers in the sun Come back ye friends whose lives are ended Come back with all that light attended Which seemed to darken and decay When ye arose and went away For the short time we are here to today today today to- to day we hope to be able to entertain you And we trust you will take everything that may be said or done in the spirit in which it is given Our exercises may not be like those of other classes Indeed we hope they are not for the ever glittering motto of the Orphan class has been and is Be original and we have striven to accord with that sentiment here today Useless to say the 04 class will do all in its power to uplift the good name of our school Then All Hail for our dear old Varsity Long may she live triumphantly may her banners wave and forever may her influence be felt throughout the state of Utah |
