Show Cedar City Couple Plans Golden Wedding Celebration : Ay - GEO. A. "Bert" WOOD H ... SABINA WOOD Wednesday, Dec. 10, was the golden wedding anniversary of George A. (Bert) and Sabina Wood. However, the prominent local couple and the family postponed post-poned celebration of the event until Friday, Dec. 26, when all members of the family will be able to be in Cedar City to honor hon-or their parents. On that date an open house in the First ward chapel, a building build-ing erected under the direction of Mr. Wood, building contractor, Invitations will be sent out, but will honor the couple. No special all friends and relatives are invited in-vited to attend the observance from G until 10 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. Wood were mar- -,. ric:ijih.cSalt Lake Temple on Dec. 10, 19027 They lived In Ogdon, Utah for eight years, before be-fore moving to Cedar City, where they have resided since. Mr. Wood, who is known to his friends throughout southern Utah at "Bert", is a pioneer builder, who through the years has built a number of the larger buildings in Cedar City, including Hotel El Escalante, the Union Pacific , passenger depot, Leigh hotel, First ward chapel, L D S Institute of Religion, the Cedar City Junior high school, and many homes of the city. He was employed by the Union Un-ion Pacific railroad company from 1923 to 1929 as construction construc-tion superintendent to build cabins ca-bins and lodges at the Southern Utah national parks, Including Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon national parks, and the Cedar Breaks national monument lodges and facilities. He has been active for many years in church and civic organ-izations organ-izations of Cedar City and filled a mission to Europe for the L D S (Continued cn Page 16) Golden Anniversary i (Continued from Page One) church in 1900. Still active, he is at present engaged in the lumber business. Mrs. Wood, a native of Bavaria, Bavar-ia, came to America as a convert con-vert to the church in April, 1902 and lived at the home of Col. N. W. Clayton in Salt Lake City, until her marriage to Mr. Wood. For many years she was active In civic and social clubs of Coda City, and was also active in church organizations. In liWu slu returned to her native land accompanied ac-companied by her daughter, Lu-cile Lu-cile Binie, and traveled extensively exten-sively in Europe, visiting in England, Eng-land, Scotland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. The couple are the parents of eight children, five of whom are living and will be in Cedar Cit; to honor their parents at the open house, Dec. 26. The surviving surviv-ing children are Max J. Wood. Cedar City; Mrs. Evan (Corline) Rite, Faribault, Minn.; Mrs. F. P. (Lucile) Binie, Palto Alto, Calif.; Mrs. Lural (Veverlec) Smith, Pico, Calif, and Mrs. Stanley Stan-ley (Audrey) Bryant, Cedar City. |
