Show a week ago the CHRONICLE j J JUST made its first appearance for the present college year All the students were no doubt more or less anxious to see what kind of a paper was to be turned out and to contrast it with the theone theone theone one of last year for there was an impression impression impression im im- in the minds of many that when the 93 92 CHRONICLE made its exit last June there passed out with it so many of its editors who intended never to return to the University again that it if would perhaps be some years to come before the paper could be resu- resu It is curious to hear the critIcisms criticisms and remarks passed for they show so plainly the likes and dislikes and the different phases of character among four hundred students When we put the q question to various students whom we chanced to meet Well what do you think of the paper we were never nevermore nevermore nevermore more forcibly struck with the truth that we have about us generous kind warmhearted warmhearted warmhearted warm warm- hearted and loyal loya students who are ever ready to say a kind word and give a helping hand and a few insignificant wiseacres and fools who think it r smart and highly becoming to pass mean remarks about the paper and hold it up to derision It is of course to be expected that a board of thirteen editors should turn out a paper that shall command respect but there are few indeed who realize just what it is to be connected with a college paper With f us for instance there are few who take j t is I less than sixteen hours per week and in order to do good work in each study it itis itis itis is necessary to make good use of every available minute So we may say with truth that the time which we devote to our paper is stolen time stolen either from our studies or from the hours which should be devoted to rest and recreation It is well then for these finders fault-finders to bear this in mind It is also well for them to rem remember em ber that to toome some ome extent it is in their power to remove the defects about which they complain We have a literary department department department depart depart- ment to which they are asked to contribute contribute contribute contri contri- bute matter with the assurance that their productions will be published if they contain sufficient literary merit We have also a local department the interest in which can be greatly in increased increased increased in- in creased if they will take the trouble to drop into the contribution box in the main hall any items of local concern We too are anxious and willing to hear any recommendations from the students on the general up make-up and matter of the paper |
